Ashwin trapped Faf with an LBW [Source: X]
Ravichandran Ashwin trapped Faf du Plessis with a clever LBW in the ongoing European T20 Premier League. The former Chennai Super Kings teammates faced each other in the brand new ETPL on September 2 at Sportpark Duivesteijn as the former India bowler had the last laugh.
Faf, the skipper of the Rotterdam Dockers, was removed on his way to a gritty century as Ashwin’s Dublin Guardians got him in the 16th over of the match. Unfortunately, even though Ashwin got the better of Faf du Plessis, ultimately, the Dockers led the triumph in the 10th match of the ETPL 2026.
Ashwin removes Faf du Plessis with trademark bowling in ETPL
Du Plessis was looking dangerous with the bat in the match, with his 51-ball 79. He completed his fifty from 41 deliveries as Rotterdam Dockers navigated to 100 runs from 11.3 overs while chasing a target of 179.
Guardians bowlers could do very little, and that's when the battle of the captains occurred, with Ravichandran Ashwin stepping in with the ball.
On the second ball of the 16th over, Ashwin bowled an off-break good-length delivery outside the off stump, and the ball suddenly turned in after pitching, which du Plessis misread.
Faf tried to flick the ball but played all around it, and it struck him on the back leg right in front of the stumps. As soon as the ball touched Faf, R Ashwin went in for a massive appeal towards the field umpire, and the finger went up pretty quickly.

Faf, though, quickly challenged the decision. However, since no bat was involved, the ball tracking showed that it was the umpire's call on wickets, and ultimately, out was given as Plessis departed after a knock of 79 runs.
