Aspiring India fast bowler Auqib Nabi delivered a fighting spell on a batting friendly surface against Sri Lanka A in Galle on Saturday, June 27. The speedster wrecked Sri Lanka A’s lower-order on Day 3 of India A’s away four-day to bag impressive figures of 4-58 from his 19.4 overs.

As one can expect, Nabi’s spell sparked a wave of positive reactions from Indian cricket fans on social media, with several of them urging the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to fast-track him into the Indian squad.

Some fans even slammed the BCCI selection committee for ignoring the 29-year-old for India’s recently-concluded one-off Test against Afghanistan, even though he underwent a prolific Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season for the victorious Jammu and Kashmir side earlier this year.

Shortly after stumps on Day 3 of the Sri Lanka A vs India A unofficial Test, the BCCI praised Auqib Nabi for leading his team’s bowling charts on a batting-friendly Galle surface. Taking to social media, the board snared snippets of the speedster’s performance from the day.

Indian cricket fans also took note of Nabi’s performance, prompting several of them to urge the BCCI selection committee to include the 29-year-old in the national squad for impending Test tours. Many fans believe that the Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler is yet to receive his due despite starring in this year’s 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season.

Here is a look at some Indian fans expressing their take on Auqib Nabi’s performance on Day 3 against Sri Lanka A.

Auqib Nabi, Yash Thakur decimate Sri Lanka A

Sri Lanka A started off the day at 113-2 in 31 overs. Overnight batters Nuwanidu Fernando (84 off 142) and Ashen Bandara (70 off162) as well as number captain Sahan Arachchige (72 off 129) all conjured courageous half-centuries as the hosts reached a commanding 300-5 in 84 overs.

However, Auqib Nabi steamrolled the lower-order of Sri Lanka A, picking up four of the final five wickets to fall in the innings to claim impressive figures of 4-58. Yash Thakur and Harsh Dubey also picked up two wickets apiece as India A gained a huge 122-run lead at the halfway stage of the match.

By stumps on Day 3, India A reached 48-0 in 17 overs to extend their lead to 170 runs with all 10 wickets intact.

When Nabi scripted history for J&K

Just a few months ago, Auqib Nabi picked up five wickets against Karnataka in the final of the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season. His spell helped the Jammu and Kashmir win the prestigious Ranji Trophy title for the first time in their history.

The cricketer also bagged the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award for scoring 245 runs and picking up 60 wickets in the entire competition.

Following his prolific performance, Indian cricket fans and even certain politicians urged the BCCI to select him in India squad for the one-off Test against Afghanistan. His fans and several cricket experts continue to fight for the underachieving paceman as India heads into the second half of the 2025-27 WTC cycle.
