Pakistan Women’s captain Fatima Sana steamrolled Netherlands with a sensational spell in match number 26 of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The in-form medium pacer picked up three wickets in the game at an expense of just 12 runs from her three overs while defending 126.
Sana’s spell helped Pakistan Women record their first win of the tournament, thus avoiding Group 1’s dreadful wooden spoon with two precious points. The 24-year-old star all-rounder also scaled a huge world record in the process in the history of Women’s T20 World Cups.
Fatima Sana surpasses legends to become world record holder
Fatima Sana signed off from the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup with three match-winning wickets against Netherlands in Pakistan’s final Group 1 match of the tournament. In the process, the 24-year-old extended her competition tally to 11 wickets in five games with an impressive average of 11.27.
She is currently ranked second among the most successful bowlers of the 2026 T20 World Cup, falling just behind table-topping Indian spinner Shree Charani by a wicket.

Notably, Fatima Sana now holds the highest number of wickets for any captain in the history of any single edition of a Women’s T20 World Cup. She surpassed a slew of legends in the process, including Bangladesh’s Salma Khatun, and former West Indies skipper Stafanie Taylor.
Even in the ongoing 2026 T20 World Cup, Scotland skipper Kathryn Bryce and West Indies captain Hayley Matthews have taken eight wickets each to be placed joint second on the all-time list. Here is a look at captains with most wickets taken in a single Women’s T20 World Cup.

Fatima Sana mops up Netherlands tail as Pakistan signs off in style
Opening the bowling with Sadia Iqbal, Pakistan Women captain Fatima Sana went wicketless in her opening spell inside the powerplay. However, the cricketer later returned by employing herself to bowl the 18th over of the Netherlands innings.
With Netherlands reaching 89-7 at the time, Sana knocked over skipper and well-set batter Babette de Leede, and tailenders Silver Siegers and Caroline de Lange for ducks to fold them up for exactly 89 in 18 overs.
Picking up three wickets in the space of just five balls without conceding a run, the star Pakistani all-rounder finished her spell with figures of 3-12 from three overs as the ‘Women in Green’ won the match by 37 runs to sign off in style.
Ayesha Zafar also picked up three wickets in the innings, after Pakistan opener Gull Feroza compiled 63* from 52 balls to push her side to a competitive 126-6 upfront.
Pakistan finishes fifth in Group 1, fail to advance to semis
After sustaining four successive losses upfront, Pakistan Women beat Netherlands to finish fifth on the six-team Group 1 standings of the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup.
Even their NRR reads a dismal -1.872 by the end of their campaign as Pakistan once again failed to qualify for the second round of the Women’s T20 tournament.
