For his fiery and pacey start to international cricket, Gurnoor Brar earned much admirations and appreciation from Indian fans on social media. While several fans praised the 26-year-old for his speed, others also commended his ability of maintaining a controlled line and length and for making the most of the new ball.

Gurnoor Brar makes debut after Ranji success

Gurnoor Brar was part of the Gujarat Titans in the recently-concluded IPL 2026 season. However, the speedster failed to receive a single crack in the playing XI throughout the tournament. Moreover, Brar played the lone match of his IPL career way back in 2023, doing so for the Punjab Kings franchise.

He was selected in India squad on a trail of his impressive performance for the Punjab cricket team in Indian domestic tournaments. In 18 first class matches, Brar has picked up 52 wickets at an impressive average of 27.30. The prodigious fast bowler has also scalped 22 wickets in 18 white-ball games since his debut in competitive cricket back in December 2021.

Afghanistan recovers after early hiccups

Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to field first against Afghanistan in Dharamshala in the first ODI of their three-match series. In a rain-revised 25-over game at the scenic venue on June 13, debutant Gurnoor Brar as well as senior paceman Arshdeep Singh both struck with the new ball for the hosts.

While Brar picked up the wicket of Ibrahim Zadran, Arshdeep trapped Sediqullah Atal and Rahmat Shah as Afghanistan slipped to 26-3 in 4.3 overs. However, batting blitz from Rahmanullah Gurbaz led Afghanistan’s recovery alongside captain Hashmatullah Shahidi with a 100-plus partnership.
