Wanindu Hasaranga is among several Sri Lankan cricketers lined up by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to undergo a fitness test. It is worth noting that the senior spinner recently suffered an injury and was ruled out of a major portion of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

With IPL 2026 on the horizon, it remains to be seen when the 28-year-old will fully recover and receive his NoC from the board in a bid to join the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise. However, just days before the start of the tournament,

Hasaranga appears to have taken a sly dig at the IPL and other franchise T20 leagues by highlighting his past achievements in international cricket.

Sri Lanka fans slam Hasaranga for bragging about past achievements

On Monday, March 21, Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga took a sly dig at IPL and other T20 franchise tournaments with a cunning social media post.

Taking to Instagram, the cricketer shared a picture of his past ICC awards, including the caps he received for being named in the ICC ODI Team of the Year and in the ICC T20I Team of the Year for the year 2024.

In the caption, the 28-year-old wrote “Look what I found today, these are the awards I received from ICC for my franchise performances.”

The social media post did not appear to have gone down well with several Sri Lanka cricket fans. With Hasaranga limiting comments on his Instagram post, a number of Sri Lanka fans took to X and trolled the cricketer for bragging about his past achievements instead of working on his fitness.

Certain fans even perceived Wanindu Hasaranga’s post as a desperate attempt to assert his international credentials as he has often been accused of prioritizing franchise cricket over international commitment for Sri Lanka. Here is a look at some of the fans reacting to the cricketer’s witty social media post.

When will Wanindu Hasaranga return to competitive cricket?

Last month, Wanindu Hasaranga suffered a hamstring injury during Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against Ireland. The injury ruled him out of the remainder of the tournament, and he is currently in line to undergo a fitness test before receiving an NoC from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in a bid to join the LSG franchise for the upcoming IPL 2026 season.

Several earlier reports claimed that Hasaranga might well have to miss the entire IPL 2026 owing to his injury. However, no official confirmation has been provided regarding either his participation in IPL 2026 or his timeline for a return to competitive cricket.

Wanindu Hasaranga roped in by LSG

Wanindu Hasaranga, who played 11 matches for the Rajasthan Royals last year, was released by the franchise prior to the IPL 2026 auction. At the bidding event, the cricketer was roped in by the LSG management for a sum of Rs. 2 crores.

As things stand, all eyes will remain on Hasaranga’s recovery and SLC’s decision, which will ultimately determine whether he features for LSG in IPL 2026.
