Andy Flower could become England Test coach [Source: AFP]
The England Test team endured a poor run of form as they lost The Ashes 1-4, and also suffered an embarrassing 1-2 defeat against New Zealand at home. Following the two back-to-back series defeats, the ECB reached its breaking point as the board sacked head coach Brendon McCullum.
With McCullum gone, England have shortlisted several candidates to replace him ahead of the Test summer, and one of the big names is the RCB head coach, Andy Flower.
Flower helped RCB win back-to-back titles, and he has also coached the England cricket team before. As a result, the board is trying to lure him.
If Flower indeed leaves RCB ahead of IPL 2027 to join the England team, the franchise might need a suitable replacement, and here are the prominent candidates who can replace him in the RCB coaching staff.
1) Dinesh Karthik
The current RCB mentor and batting coach, Dinesh Karthik, has turned things around for the franchise ever since he joined the team. A former RCB player himself, Karthik has had a big role in shaping the team’s batting and helping the franchise win back-to-back titles.
One of the shrewdest minds in Indian cricket, several RCB players, including the legendary Virat Kohli, have hailed him for his guidance and insights, and that is the perfect criterion to become a team coach.
Apart from RCB, Karthik is currently working as the batting coach for The Hundred franchise, the London Spirit, and in the last two years, the former India cricketer has gained enough experience to become a team coach. Instead of finding a name from outside, RCB can simply promote the Indian legend to the head coach post to replace Flower.
2) Jonathan Trott
If underrated is a word, then Jonathan Trott is the definition of it. The former England cricketer has extensively worked with the Afghanistan cricket team, and under his guidance, the Afghans almost reached the 2023 World Cup semis, and in 2024, the team defied all odds to reach the semifinal of the T20 World Cup.

Apart from the Afghanistan team, Trott has also worked in franchise cricket with the Pretoria Capitals and the Gulf Giants. Just like Karthik, the Englishman has a sharp mind, and his experience in franchise cricket could come in handy for the reigning IPL champions.
Moreover, RCB boasts a few English players in their ranks, who could lure the former Afghanistan coach to join the IPL franchise and replace Andy Flower.
3) Adam Voges
A former Australian cricketer and the current head coach of the BBL team, Perth Scorchers, Adam Voges has won the tournament as a player before joining the Scorchers coaching team in 2018.
Under his guidance and astute leadership, the Scorchers won back-to-back BBL titles (BBL 11, 12), and he currently leads the state's all-conquering Men's program, with WA securing eight domestic titles (5 ODC, 3 Sheffield Shield) during his time in charge.
He might not be a popular name to replace Andy Flower if the RCB coach departs, but Voges certainly has the tactical nuances and an illustrious CV to back his coaching credentials.
