Pakistan star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has officially been signed for the upcoming Lanka Premier League (LPL 2026). The left-arm fast bowler is set to make his debut in the Sri Lankan franchise league.

Meanwhile, the LPL 2026 is scheduled to begin on July 17, with a repeat of the 2024 final serving as the tournament opener. Defending champions Jaffna Kings will face Galle Gallants.

Shaheen Afridi Signed By Kandy Royals For LPL 2026

Notably, according to reports, Shaheen Afridi has been signed by the Kandy Royals, marking his first-ever appearance in LPL 2026.

Furthermore, the league recently hinted at his arrival through an Instagram teaser. The video featured a left-arm fast bowler whose run-up, bowling action, and follow-through closely resembled Afridi's trademark style. The post carried the caption:

"A storm is coming. The King of Pace is arriving at LPL 2026. Can you guess WHO… and for WHICH TEAM?"

Shaheen Afridi Yet To Receive NOC From PCB

However, it is important to note that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently granted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to several players for participation in overseas leagues, including The Hundred, LPL 2026, Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2026 ), and the Global Super League 2026.

Interestingly, Shaheen Afridi was not among the initial list of players who received NOCs. Nevertheless, the star pacer is not part of Pakistan's squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies.

Therefore, it is expected that he could receive the required clearance from the PCB in the coming days, especially with LPL 2026 set to begin shortly.

Major Boost For Kandy Royals

Shaheen Afridi's arrival will provide a significant boost to the Kandy Royals. Notably, he is set to join an experienced squad featuring players such as Wanindu Hasaranga, Moeen Ali, and Angelo Mathews. Consequently, the Royals will benefit from the addition of one of the world's premier fast bowlers.

Over the past few years, Afridi has established himself as one of international cricket's leading left-arm pacers. In addition to his success with Pakistan, he has enjoyed impressive stints in franchise leagues, including BBL, ILT20 and The Hundred.

Moreover, Afridi has enjoyed remarkable success as captain of Lahore Qalandars, leading the franchise to three PSL titles.
