Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans begin their campaign in the IPL 2026 on the wrong foot, losing to the Punjab Kings in New Chandigarh. The miscalculation, with both bat and ball, cost them the match, but GT will look to rejig things before the next game against the Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday.

In Chandigarh, Gujarat Titans batted first and were at 119/2 at one stage, but the middle order collapsed like anything, and they finished on 162/6, making a mess of the last 5-6 overs.

With the ball too, GT had PBKS’ neck under their feet, but they let the opposition take a breather. Prabhsimran Singh and Cooper Connolly staged a 76-run stand for the second wicket, before Punjab Express puntured but Connolly pulled off a hiest as GT lost in the final over.

If Glenn Phillips and Shahrukh Khan disappointed with the bat, faster bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Ashok Sharma were no less. Ahead of first game in Ahmedadad, let us look at what could be the GT Playing XI vs RR.

GT Predicted Playing XI vs RR- IPL 2026

Top Order: Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Jos Buttler

The opening pair of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan were the biggest strengths last season. Although the skipper started off this season positively, there were serious concerns in Sudharsan's intent. The GT management will back their tried-and-tested opening pair in the GT Playing XI vs RR.

The seasoned Jos Buttler has been in poor form for quite some time now, but the attacking Englishman is one knock away from getting back in his groove.

Middle Order & All-Rounders: Kumar Kushagra, Washington Sundar, Rahul Tewatia, Jason Holder

Glenn Phillips turned out to be a disappointment on his GT debut despite scoring 25 runs. Not only was he the reason for their collapse, but he also caused the team to lose its balance. They might bring in Jason Holder in place of the Kiwi all-rounder, as the Carribean star was scintillating in the T20 World Cup game vs South Africa at Ahmedabad.

Shahrukh Khan again left Gujarat in a muddle. They might drop him for the attacking youngster Kumar Kushagra, who can be slotted in at four, and then have Holder batting in the lower middle order.

Washington Sundar and Rahul Tewatia might regain their slots, but will be in thin ice in the GT Playing XI vs RR.

Bowlers: Rashid Khan, Mohammad Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, Ashok Sharma

In the bowling department, Prasidh Krishna was the biggest positive for the Titans in their opener. He returned with three wickets and will again play as an Impact Player.

Another positive with the ball was Rashid Khan. The champion leggie might have snapped just a solitary wicket, but he bowled an economical spell (1/29)

Skipper Gill didn't use Mohammad Siraj after his opening spell, but he failed to snap a wicket with the new ball. Meanwhile, Kagiso Rabada and debutant Ashok Sharma were rather expensive in the last match, but they will likely be retained in the GT Playing XI vs RR.
