Abhishek Sharma stormed back into form with an electrifying 30-ball 55 against Zimbabwe in match number 48 of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The blistering left-handed opener clattered four boundaries and four huge sixes in the process as India charted a record T20 World Cup total in Chennai on February 26.
Even though young Abhishek Sharma slapped a match-winning knock for the ‘Men in Blue’, his mentor Yuvraj Singh still seems to be harboring concerns towards his apprentice, as per his recent social media activity. In a celebratory Instagram post shared by the Indian opener, the former all-rounder responded with a cheeky remark that quickly grabbed attention online.

Yuvraj Singh threatens to beat Abhishek Sharma with a “slipper”
In yet another friendly episode between mentor Yuvraj Singh and his pupil Abhishek, the former has been spotted hilariously disparaging the young India opener on a social media platform.
On Friday, February 27, i.e., a day after India’s emphatic Super 8 victory over Zimbabwe in Chennai, the youngster celebrated the occasion with a joyful post on Instagram. He also shared pictures of himself from the match, and wrote “Grateful. Focused. Moving ahead” in the caption.
As it turned out, his mentor Yuvraj Singh took note of the post and dropped a hilarious one-emoji response in the comments. The legendary all-rounder simply responded with a ‘slipper’ emoji, thus demonstrating his concerns with the struggling opening batter and threatening to beat him.
Whether the playful warning was directed at Abhishek Sharma’s earlier dip in form or his failure to convert the start into a century against Zimbabwe, however, remains unclear.
Zimbabwe 50 a welcome knock for young Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek Sharma started off the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with three successive ducks, all in the opening Group Stage of the tournament. The attacking opening batter also scored a sluggish 15 against South Africa in Ahmedabad last weekend.
On a trail of just 15 runs in four innings, the 25-year-old blasted 55 runs off 30 balls with four fours and four huge sixes. Hardik Pandya also slapped a 23-ball half-century, and the likes of Tilak Varma (44* off 16), Suryakumar Yadav (33 off 13), Sanju Samson (24 off 15) and Ishan Kishan (38 off 24) chipped in with quick runs as India mounted a colossal 256-4 in 20 overs.
As it turned out, Abhishek’s timely 55 not only catalyzed India’s big 72-run win over Zimbabwe, but also silenced his critics after a string of disappointing outings.
