West Indies crushed Pakistan in the first Test by 90 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The outcome also marked only the second win for the West Indies cricket team in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle

Following the four-day thriller between West Indies and Pakistan in Tarouba, here is a look at the updated points table of the 2025-27 WTC.

West Indies retain eighth spot despite big win in unchanged table

West Indies secured a comprehensive 90-run win to register only their second victory in 11 matches this WTC 2025-27 cycle. The outcome also helped the West Indies team lift its PCT from 15 to 22.73.

In spite of receiving a massive boost, the men from the Caribbean failed to advance on the WTC 2025-27 standings. They continue to occupy number eighth slot on the nine-team charts, with two wins and seven defeats from 11 matches. 

Moreover, entire WTC 2025-27 remains unchanged, with Australia and South Africa helming the points table. West Indies, however, can leapfrog England to jump to number seven position if they win their series-deciding second Test against Pakistan next week.

Pakistan remains at the bottom 

Pakistan’s dwindling Test fortunes took another hit, as the ‘Men in Green’ have now suffered four straight defeats in the ongoing WTC 2025-27 cycle. Moreover, their dismal PCT of 8.33 has now reduced to 6.67, thus leaving little-to-chance in qualifying for next year’s grand finale.

Interestingly, the PCB had re-appointed Babar Azam as Test captain in a bid to improve Pakistan’s recent struggles. It now appears that even the legendary Pakistani batter has failed to inspire his troops, as his side now looks towards the series-decider for mere survival.

West Indies vs Pakistan 1st Test Match Summary

Winning the toss and batting first, hosts West Indies charted 311 runs from 98.5 overs in their first innings. Shai Hope and Kavem Hodge listed fighting half-centuries, with the former top-scoring in the innings with his 92. 

For Pakistan, Mohammad Ali picked up four wickets at an expense of 50 runs. Up against 311, the visitors folded up for just 282 in 80.1 overs in response despite featuring a record century from former captain Shan Masood. The ‘Men in Green’ were systematically wrecked by Justin Greaves, who picked up a sizzling five-fer.

Emboldened with a handy 29-run lead, West Indies made 181 in 54.5 overs in the second innings to set up a target of 211. Shamar Joseph launched four huge sixes to score a vital 38 for the hosts, before Mohammad Abbas completed his five-wicket haul.

Chasing 211, captain Babar Azam punched out a courageous 58* with the tail, but a five-wicket haul from Jayden Seales bundled out the visitors for just 120 as West Indies secured a comprehensive 90-run win.
