In a significant development, Bangladesh batter Mushfiqur Rahim is expected to be available for the second Test against West Indies, starting in Sylhet on November 5. The veteran batter missed the first Test in Mirpur after suffering a right index finger injury during a practice session on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan has provided a positive update on Mushfiqur Rahim's condition.
He expects the experienced batter to recover within three days and become available for selection for the second and final Test between Bangladesh and West Indies.
How Did Mushfiqur Rahim Get Injured Ahead Of BAN vs WI 1st Test?
It is important to note that Mushfiqur Rahim picked up the injury on Tuesday while facing a net bowler during Bangladesh's training session ahead of the opening Test against West Indies.
The injury initially did not appear serious, as the team medical staff applied ice to the affected finger and kept the batter under observation. However, his condition did not improve enough by Wednesday (October 28) morning; as a result, Mushfiqur Rahim was ruled out of the BAN vs WI 1st Test.
“Mushfiqur Rahim suffered an injury in his right index finger during practice yesterday. He was under observation but till this morning he had not recovered sufficiently. It's a contusion injury and we are hoping that within three days he will be able to recover from it and he will be available for the next Test,” team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said.
Bangladesh will now monitor Mushfiqur Rahim's recovery over the coming days. If he regains fitness as expected, the star player could return to the squad for the Sylhet Test beginning November 5.
