In the ongoing IPL 2026 match between RCB and MI at the Wankhede Stadium, Virat Kohli lost his cool after throwing his wicket away. Notably, RCB, batting first, went all guns blazing and put 187 runs on the board just after 15 overs.

Phil Salt and Rajat Patidar were the key contributers as they slammed quickfire fifties. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, also scored a fifty, but he was at the centre of criticism for his sluggish knock.

Hardik Pandya Ends Virat Kohli's Sluggish Knock

Unlike Phil Salt and Rajat Patidar, Virat Kohli failed to get going. Notably, the right-handed batter scored 50 (38), which featured five fours and a solitary six. The fans were hoping to see their idol shift gears after the 15th over, but the former RCB captain fell prey to Hardik Pandya.

It usually takes a brilliant delivery to get rid of Virat, but such was not the case today. Notably, Hardik Pandya bowled a low full-toss, which the 37-year-old failed to connect and Suryakumar Yadav took a simple catch at the boundary.

Virat Kohli Throws Gear In Anger

Virat Kohli is full of passion and aggression, but rarely you see him expressing his anger after getting out. However, today, after getting out on a lose delivery, Virat was furious with himself. It just added onto the fact that he played a sluggish and slow knock.

Notably, on his way back to the pavillion, Virat threw his gloves at the boundary cushion and slammed his helmet in anger. The clip quickly went viral on social media and spread like fire on the internet.

Virat Kohli Fears BCCI Fine

Throwing equipment in anger (helmet, bat, gloves) violates the IPL Code of Conduct, likely triggering a Level 1 or Level 2 offense. Such actions, especially when directed at umpires or in the field, result in fines (often 25%-100% of the match fee) and penalties, such as demerit points and potential suspension.

Therefore, Virat Kohli's action must have caught BCCI and it is to be seen whether the apex cricket board of India fines the India veteran for his actions in IPL 2026.

Virat Kohli Faces Backlash For Wasting DRS

Virat Kohli's sluggish knock was not the only negative thing about his knock. Notably, Virat also faced backlash for wasting two reviews. Interestingly, the 37-year-old wasted both DRS to check a wide. He was criticised for wasting both reviews.

Virat Kohli was labelled selfish on the internet and his lack of game awareness was also called out publically on social media. Meanwhile, talking about the ongoing match, at the time of writing this article, Mumbai Indians are 212/3 after 17.2 overs.
