India continued their stellar run in the T20 World Cup 2026, as they defeated the Netherlands by 17 runs in their final group-stage match. Meanwhile, apart from India's brilliance on the field, what grabbed the limelight was a heated moment between Suryakumar Yadav and ace spinner Varun Chakaravarthy, as the India captain gave the latter a death stare for being inattentive during his pep talk.
Suryakumar Yadav carries a cool-headed personality and generally keeps his composure during international matches. However, India's latest T20 World Cup match against the Netherlands saw the flip side of his demeanour, with the India captain outbursting on Varun Chakaravarthy for performing his role to motivate Washington Sundar.
Suryakumar Yadav gets angry on Varun Chakaravarthy during IND vs NED
The incident occurred in the drinks break during the Netherlands' run-chase in the second half of the match. As the game was still hanging in the balance, Suryakumar Yadav called for a team meeting, firing up his troops with a motivational talk.
However, when the India captain passed on the strategic message to his teammates, Varun Chakaravarthy was inattentive. The experienced spinner was not all ears to Suryakumar, engaging in a discussion with Washington Sundar instead.
From the clip, it seems like Varun Chakaravarthy was trying to pump up Sundar, who was struggling to get going against the Netherlands. But as Suryakumar Yadav needed everyone's attention for an urgent team huddle, he gave a deadly stare to the spinner, asking him to listen to his instructions and pause his conversation with Sundar.
As Suryakumar Yadav warned Chakaravarthy to pay attention, the spinner instantly realised his mistake and joined the Indian team huddle. He stayed silent and patiently listened to the India captain's instructions alongside the other members of the Indian team.

Varun Chakaravarthy emerges as Suryakumar Yadav's trump card in T20 World Cup 2026
Talking about Varun Chakaravarthy, the right-arm spinner has emerged as India's wrecker-in-chief in the T20 World Cup 2026. He sustained his purple patch in the tournament, dismantling the Netherlands' batting order with a sensational three-wicket haul.
Overall, Chakaravarthy has bagged nine wickets in four matches at a magnificent strike rate of eight and a superb economy of 5.17. While Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh have blown hot and cold, Chakaravarthy has been the biggest threat to the opposition with his wily variations.
Meanwhile, captain Suryakumar Yadav has himself been one of the disappointments for India following his crucial half-century in the tournament opener against the United States. Statistically, Surya has managed 78 runs at a poor strike rate of 111.42 since the first game, letting India down with his approach in the middle overs.
