Rinku Singh cannot put a foot wrong at the Ekana Stadium as the KKR vice-captain is having one of his best games in IPL. The southpaw pulled his team out of trouble with the bat and is now making noise in the field as he recreated Suryakumar Yadav's T20 World Cup final catch.

Talking about ongoing IPL 2026 match between KKR and LSG, the three-time winners were restricted to 93/7 which is when Rinku Singh slammed a brilliant 83 (51) off the bat. Further, in the second innings, he pulled off an unbelievable catch to put his team in the hunt.

Rinku Singh Recreates Suryakumar Yadav's Iconic Catch

On the 2nd ball of the 11th over, Aiden Markram played a brilliant shot over mid-off hoping for a maximum. However, Rinku Singh, who was at long-off, plucked onto a stunner and pulled off a brilliant bunny catch.

Notably, Rinku Singh caught the ball then he threw the ball in the air and went over the boundary cushion. He returned to the field and then completed the catch. It was a turning point in the game as LSG lost their second wicket and Markram, who was looking good with 31 (27), returned to the pavillion.


The catch reminded fans of Suryakumar Yadav, who took a similar catch off David Miller in the final over of the T20 World Cup 2024 final. It was a turning point in the game and India eventually went onto win the game.

Rinku Singh Breaks MS Dhoni's Long-Standing Record

As mentioned above, Rinku Singh scored a brilliant 83 (51). With the knock, he scripted several records. Firstly, he shattered MS Dhoni's long-standing record and slammed the highest score in IPL by a No.6 batter in the first innings of a match.

Previously, MS Dhoni held the record for his unbeaten knock of 70 runs from 40 balls for Chennai Super Kings as a No. 6 batter in their IPL 2011 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 22.

Rinku Singh Nearly Shatters Andre Russell's Record

Rinku Singh also fell just short of Andre Russell's record for the highest-score by a No.6 batter or lower in first innings. Andre Russell holds the record for his 88-run unbeaten record against Chennai Super Kings in 2018.

Overall, the record of scoring most runs in an IPL match as a No. 6 or lower batter is held by Hardik Pandya. Pandya scored 91 runs from just 34 balls for Mumbai Indians in their 2019 IPL.

Talking about the ongoing match, at the time of writing this article, Kolkata Knight Riders are close to second straight win. LSG require 32 runs to win in 13 balls.
