Jos Buttler revealed some details of the fire that erupted in the Gujarat Titans’ team bus that was taking them back to the team hotel after they had lost the IPL 2026 final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). This happened on May 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

GT was asked to bat first by RCB, after captain Rajat Patidar won the toss. Washington Sundar top-scored with 50* as GT hummed and hawed to 155/8 in 20 overs. This was a very below-par score on the Ahmedabad pitch that is suited to chasing, and that’s what happened when RCB began their chase.

Virat Kohli’s 75 and Venkatesh Iyer’s blitz help RCB win back-to-back IPL titles

In the chase, Venkatesh Iyer and Virat Kohli opened for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Iyer got injured early in the chase and decided to go after the bowling. He scored a quick 32 in 16 balls and gave RCB the best start possible.

Virat Kohli, on the other hand, continued to anchor the chase and scored his fastest IPL fifty in just 25 balls. He made 75* runs in 42 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes, as RCB won the game by 5 wickets with 2 overs to spare. Kohli won the Player of the Match in the IPL 2026 final for his brilliant knock.

Gujarat Titans bus catches fire midway to team hotel

After losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2026 final, Gujarat Titans (GT) had a rough night on May 31, 2026, as their team transport broke down en route to the team hotel, leaving them stranded on the road.

According to a PTI report, the team bus that was transporting the Gujarat players and support staff to the hotel after the IPL final defeat to Royal Challenge Bengaluru broke down.

The report states that after waiting on the road for a short while, the team members—who are all safe and unharmed despite the smoke spreading inside the bus—were moved to another vehicle and taken to the hotel.

"RCB celebrated, while our bus went up in smoke," Jos Buttler reveals details

Smoke from a short circuit inside the team bus reportedly caused players and support staff to get out and wait by the side of the road until another coach could be scheduled.

According to Jos Buttler's account of the incident, the men seated in the back of the bus were the first to notice the smoke emanating from it. They were left stranded on the side of the road for two hours until replacement transportation could come.

"Always going to be a winner and a loser, so someone has to be the loser. But unfortunately, it was us, and our night was sort of summed up by two in the morning on the bus home. The boys at the back had started smelling smoke, and we all got off the bus and stood by the side of the road. Well, I'm sure the RCB party was in full flow. Our bus was going up in smoke along with our "not what you need." Our dreams of winning the title. So disappointing and it'll take a while to get over it, to be honest," Buttler said on the Love for Cricket podcast.
