When lights are the brightest, pressure is highest, crowds are the loudest, the best will arrive, the strongest will survive and the greatest will thrive. India's 14-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi actually converted these immortal lines into action, as he attained batting nirvana, slamming a sensational century in the under-19 World Cup final against England. The prodigious talent proved himself worth the hype, justifying why India keep him atop the list of their next-gen superstars.
When Thomas Rew won the toss and invited India to bat, little did he realise how his decision could backfire on the English contingent in the high-stakes final. Although Aaron George, the famous centurion from the semifinal against Afghanistan, fell prey to Alex Green for nine, Vaibhav Suryavanshi kept the Indian ship afloat with stunning stroke play.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi reigns supreme in IND vs ENG u19 World Cup final
India u19 had a shaky start to their innings, as their in-form batter Aaron George was dismissed for nine runs early into the match. However, the destructive duo of Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre steadied the ship, stitching a magnificent 142-run stand for the second wicket.
More importantly, they took only 13 overs to score these runs, ensuring India u19 kept their English opponents under the pump. While Mhatre departed soon after completing his fifty, Suryavanshi continued his onslaught on the Englishmen, eventually bringing up a spectacular century.
