On Saturday, June 6, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scripted history as the youngster earned his maiden senior team call-up. The selection committee announced squads for the UK tour and Asian Games, which featured the Rajasthan Royals prodigy.

The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee rewarded Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for a stellar IPL 2026. For the unversed, the 15-year-old single-handedly carried Rajasthan Royals to the playoffs and amassed 776 runs in 16 innings.

Ajit Agarkar Reflects On Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s T20I Debut

Agarkar remarked that it was nearly impossible to not pick the youngster in T20I set-up. He added that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has also proved his mettle in Under-19 cricket.

“He almost forced us to pick him. I know he's young, but two IPLs in a row, and we also know what he did at the Under-19 level...we can all see the kind of talent he has. We're hopeful that if and when he gets an opportunity, he shows the same ability," he remarked.

 "He has picked himself through his own performances," Ajit Agarkar added.

Now, after the T20I selection, there is a hype aroud Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and whether the youngster would soon make his red-ball debut as well. One of the reporters asked the same to Agarkar, and the chief selector was quick to respond.

Agarkar stated that Vaibhav Sooryanvashi is young and the selectors will take a call after the domestic season.

"Picked him for the format in which he has excelled. Red-ball, he's a kid. Just starting his journey. When the domestic season starts, and he plays a bit of red-ball cricket, we'll wait. Why jump the gun? One step at a time."
