Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s impact on cricket since his debut in IPL has been excellent. He has exceeded all expectations and doubts that experts and fans had with more than 250 runs in his first outing in IPL 2025, where he scored one century and one fifty.

He has also played youth cricket across formats for India and recently played a huge role in India’s U19 World Cup win in 2024. He had scored 175 runs, totally demoralizing the England U19 team in the final and helping India post a total of over 400 runs.

Many had thought Vaibhav Sooryavanshi might face second-season blues, as other teams might have found his weaknesses through video analysis. However, Sooryavanshi has gone one step further and has hammered more runs this season.

He has scored 440 runs in 11 games for the Rajasthan Royals with a strike rate of 236.56 and has hammered 40 sixes. His century came against Sunrisers Hyderabad, scoring a 36-ball ton, the third fastest in IPL history and one ball shy of his own record of a 35-ball century in IPL 2025.

“The door would be three-fourths open"— Ravi Shastri on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s India debut hopes

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a youthful opener, should be thrown into the international squad as soon as possible, according to former India coach Ravi Shastri.

“The door would be three-fourths open. I can tell you that, for sure, because if you want to encourage or get someone young and into the setup as quickly as possible, then it's the T20 format of the game, and he is not short by any margin. This guy can walk into a lot of sides in world cricket at this current moment in time. Just when you look at the exuberance of youth, and that youth shows on his face,” Shastri said on ICC Review.

Ravi Shastri says the Ireland tour will be ideal for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to make his India debut

Even though the next ICC Men's T20 World Cup isn't until 2028, Shastri said that Sooryavanshi may make his debut as India's youngest player during an upcoming trip of Ireland in June. India is set to play two T20Is in Ireland and then five T20Is in England.

“A lot of people will ask, is he 15? Is he 16? Is he 14? I don't care. I just see the way he is batting at the moment and the way he's taking on all comers twice his age or maybe two and a half times his age. It doesn't matter to him. So, I think he's very, very much in the reckoning. And when you have tours of Ireland and all this happening now, I would be looking into him straight away,” Shastri said.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s India A call-up

The BCCI has already begun assimilating Vaibhav Sooryavanshi into the India setup, as the opener was named in the Tilak Varma-led India A side. This side will shortly travel to Sri Lanka to play an ODI tri-series also involving Afghanistan A. This series will be played in June.
