In a remarkable achievement, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav completed 3000 runs in T20I cricket. The experienced cricketer attained the landmark during the fifth T20I between India and New Zealand at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
Suryakumar Yadav oozed sublime form ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, extending his purple patch in the T20I series between India and New Zealand. The middle-order batter smashed four boundaries and six gigantic maximums, amassing 63 runs off just 30 balls. He brought up 3000 T20I runs in this process, becoming the fastest batter, in terms of balls faced, to achieve the milestone.

Known for his extraordinary 360-degree stroke-play, Suryakumar has taken only 1822 balls to complete 3000 runs in T20I cricket. While he has taken 98 innings for the landmark, Suryakumar is the quickest, in terms of balls faced, to enter the 3000 T20I runs club.

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav had a forgettable time in T20Is last year, managing only 218 runs at a horrible average of 13.63. His poor form earned Suryakumar massive backlash, as fans began questioning his place in the team.
However, the Indian team management's decision to persist with Surya as the captain eventually worked wonders, with the veteran cricketer regaining his mojo right before the World Cup. The home series against New Zealand was a golden opportunity for Surya to rediscover himself and needless to say, he grabbed it with both hands.
He hammered consecutive match-winning fifties in the second and third T20I against New Zealand before concluding the series with yet another impactful knock. Thus, Suryakumar Yadav's dramatic turnaround in the home series provided him with the much-needed impetus and morale boost ahead of the T20 World Cup.

After winning the toss and batting first, India lost an early wicket in the form of Sanju Samson. While Abhishek Sharma departed for 30 runs, Surya and Ishan Kishan stitched a breathtaking stand, taking the New Zealand bowlers to the cleaners.
Ishan brought up his maiden T20I hundred, presenting a strong case for his inclusion over Sanju Samson in India's T20 World Cup playing XI. As a result, India posted a massive score of 271 runs at the end of 20 overs.
