In a significant development, veteran batter David Miller has been declared fit to play the T20 World Cup 2026. Miller had sustained an adductor strain during the recently concluded SA20 season.
The injury undoubtedly jeopardised the experienced campaigner's T20 World Cup dream. However, in an encouraging sign for South Africa, Miller has received the fitness clearance to participate in the mega event, starting February 7.

South Africa's prominent middle order batter David Miller sustained an injury to his adductor muscle while representing the Paarl Royals in the SA20 2025-26 season. The injury threatened his availability for the T20 World Cup, emerging as a massive concern for the Proteas ahead of the competition.
However, the talismanic batter was able to recover just in time, securing his place in South Africa's final squad for the T20 World Cup 2026. Miller underwent a fitness test earlier this week, receiving clearance to feature in the marquee event. Cricket South Africa issued a medical update on David Miller, stating,
"Proteas Men’s batter David Miller has been medically cleared for next month’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. Miller successfully underwent a fitness test this week following an adductor muscle strain sustained while playing for Paarl Royals during the Betway SA20. He will join the squad on Sunday when they depart for Mumbai from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg."
As a result, the 36-year-old will be available for selection for South Africa's tournament opener against Canada on February 9.

David Miller has been one of the most successful South African batters in T20 World Cups. The left-hander has amassed 423 runs across 22 innings at an average of 30.21 and a strike rate of 118.82, claiming the fifth spot on the list of South African batters with the most runs in the tournament. Overall, Miller has represented South Africa in 133 T20Is, scoring 2630 runs at a superb strike rate of 140.6.

The Proteas will further take on Afghanistan, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates in their subsequent group stage matches. The encounters against Afghanistan and New Zealand will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium on February 11 and 14, respectively. Meanwhile, the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi will conduct the Proteas' final group stage match against the UAE.
