Suryakumar Yadav has been reportedly sacked as India’s T20I captain. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to train in Mullanpur for the ODI series against Afghanistan. In other news, the BCB has named Bangladesh squad for the ODI series against Australia.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Wednesday, June 3.

Suryakumar Yadav sacked as India captain

Suryakumar Yadav has been reportedly sacked as Team India’s T20I captain owing to his prolonged dip in form with the bat. As a leader, Yadav has led Team India to 2025 Asia Cup and 2026 ICC T20 World Cup wins. Under his leadership, the Indian team also did not lose a single T20I series, bilateral or otherwise.

As per reports, the BCCI will be expected to announce his replacement for their upcoming T20I series against Ireland soon.

India to tour NZ, dates announced

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has announced the entire schedule of their 2026-27 home international season. As per the itinerary, the ‘Black Caps’ will be hosting India and Sri Lanka later this year. Team India is scheduled to play five T20Is, five ODI matches and two Tests between October 22 and December 1, before Sri Lanka flies to New Zealand for three ODIs, three T20Is and two Test matches between January and February.

SL name playing XI, Nissanka and Mendis score 50s in 1st ODI

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has named Sri Lanka’s playing XI for the first ODI match against the West Indies. Kusal Mendis led the side, with Kamindu Mendis serving as his deputy. The playing XI also includes Pathum Nissanka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana among other star performers.

Nissanka and captain Kusal Mendis scored sparkling half-centuries in the match, after being put into bat first in Kingston by home captain Shai Hope.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma to train on this date for Afghanistan series

Senior Indian batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma along with the rest of their teammates will train in Mullanpur between June 9 and June 11 before travelling to Dharamsala for India’s first ODI match against Afghanistan on June 13.

The series will mark the international return of ODI players Kohli and Rohit since India’s home series against New Zealand earlier this year.

Bangladesh name squad for Australia ODI series

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has unveiled a 15-player Bangladesh squad for the first two ODIs of their upcoming three-match series against Australia. Mehidy Hasan Miraz is set to continue as national captain, and he will be accompanied by fellow star performers like Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tawhid Hridoy, Litton Kumer Das, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed among others.

The ODI series between the two sides will be played between June 9 and June 14 next week.
