Sanju Samson roared back into form with an electrifying century against Delhi Capitals in match number 18 of the IPL 2026 season. Opening the innings for the CSK, the blistering top-order batter clattered 15 boundaries and four huge sixes in his unbeaten knock of 115 off just 56 deliveries.

Samson’s innings catapulted the hitherto winless CSK side to a monumental total after being invited to bat first. Celebrating his first fifty-plus score of the season and his first for CSK after three dreadful outings with the bat, the 31-year-old also proposed an interesting offer to legendary commentator, and apparently his ‘lucky charm’ Ravi Shastri.

Sanju Samson invites Ravi Shastri to his ‘every match’

While speaking with the commentators during the mid-innings break, CSK opener Sanju Samson cheekily referred to commentary legend and former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri as his ‘lucky charm’.

The cricketer also jokingly invited Shastri to his every competitive appearance going forward. Sanju Samson said “Please come every match, Ravi sir. You seem to be my lucky charm.”

It is worth noting that Samson has also played a handful of international matches for Team India during the time when Ravi Shastri served as the head coach of the national side between the years 2017 and 2021.

Samson overcomes recent failures with thunderous century

Back in late-2025 last year, Sanju Samson was released from the Rajasthan Royals franchise and traded in by CSK for the IPL 2026 season. Fresh off his T20 World Cup 2026 success for the Indian cricket team, Samson failed to carry his momentum for CSK, as the attacking opener was dismissed for just six against Rajasthan Royals in match three of the tournament last month.

He also registered underwhelming scores of just seven and nine against Punjab Kings and RCB respectively to aggregate 22 runs in his first three innings at an average of 7.33.

However, Sanju Samson overcame his recent demons in ‘Yellow’ by tearing Delhi Capitals bowlers apart at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. The cricketer plundered 115 unbeaten runs off just 56 balls with 15 boundaries and four sixes to chart his seventh T20 century, fourth in the IPL and his first for the CSK franchise.

CSK mount 212-2 in must-win game

Getting invited to bat first, CSK mounted 212-2 in 20 overs upfront. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad struggled to get going in his sluggish knock of 15 from 18 balls. Ayush Mhatre got retired hurt after reaching 59 off 36, while Samson top-scored in the innings with his boundary-laden 115*.

For the Capitals, only captain Axar Patel managed to pick up a wicket in the high-scoring innings.

The match marks a must-win one for the CSK franchise, considering Ruturaj Gaikwad and co. is yet to register a single win so far in three matches of the ongoing IPL 2026 season. With three successive defeats, they are currently placed at the bottom of the 10-team points table.
