Namibia is all set to host South Africa in an ODI for the first time in their history. The teams play the ODI series opener in Windhoek on September 9 at 1 PM (IST).
Leading up to the series, South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe played a T20 tri-series, where the hosts also beat South Africa for the second time in their history. However, South Africa went unbeaten for the rest of the series and subsequently won the final against Zimbabwe by 48 runs.
For the ODIs, Bjorn Foruin will be leading an exciting crop of players, including stars like Dewald Brevis, who scored two fifties in the T20I tri-series and was the joint-highest run-scorer with Lhuan-dre Pretorius with 226 runs. On the other hand, the young bowling group will be led by Corbin Bosch.
For Namibia, Gerhard Erasmus will lead a pretty settled squad, boasting some experienced players in JJ Smit, Jan Frylinck and Ruben Trumpelmann, among others.
During the T20I series, Jan Frylinck looked in good touch, scoring 162 runs in 4 innings at a strike rate of 138.46, being the third-highest run-scorer. Erasmus is also heading into the ODIs in form, with 149 runs at a very good strike rate of 150.50 in the T20Is.
This series is the final test for the Proteas ahead of their high-profile two-format series against the travelling Australia, beginning at the end of the month. Hence, players who are on the periphery of the main squad will look to impress and end the Namibia tour on a high in this series.
