In an important update, Ryan Rickelton has joined a new team during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2026). The tournament began on March 29, and at the same time, Rickelton is representing the Mumbai Indians.
Notably, Mumbai Indians started their IPL 2026 journey against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 30 at the Wankhede Stadium. After winning the toss, Mumbai Indians decided to bowl first. As the match began, KKR batted first and set a big total of 220 runs.

In response, Mumbai Indians chased the target with confidence. The opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton played a key role. Rickelton scored 81 runs from 43 balls, while Rohit Sharma made 78 runs from 38 balls. As a result, Mumbai Indians successfully chased the total in 19.1 overs and won the match by six wickets.
Moreover, their partnership created history. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton set a new record for the highest opening partnership for Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in IPL matches. This strong start gave the team great momentum in the tournament.

Ryan Rickelton joins new franchise
At the same time, Ryan Rickelton has signed with MI New York for the upcoming Major League Cricket 2026 season. This team is part of the Mumbai Indians group and is owned by Reliance Industries.
MI New York is one of the top teams in the league. They won the first MLC title in 2023, and later, they secured another championship in 2025. Therefore, Rickelton’s addition strengthens an already successful team.
It is important to note that Ryan Rickelton is now connected with multiple teams under the Mumbai Indians group. He already plays for MI Cape Town in the SA20 league and Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
Now, MI New York becomes the third team he joins within the same network. The announcement was officially shared by the franchise on social media.
Ryan Rickelton’s journey so far
Notably, Rickelton joined Mumbai Indians in 2025 after being bought for INR 1 crore in the IPL auction. During the previous season, he delivered a solid performance, scoring 388 runs in 14 innings.
In addition, he has been part of MI Cape Town since 2022. Over time, he has become a reliable player for the team. He often plays the role of anchoring the innings, and at times, he has also taken up leadership responsibilities. He has scored 1349 runs in 33 innings for the team, maintaining an impressive strike rate of 160.97.
Looking at his overall T20 career, Rickelton has played 149 innings. He has scored 4331 runs with a strike rate of 145.82. His record also includes 3 centuries and 27 half-centuries.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have built a strong squad for IPL 2026. With players in good form, the team will look to continue their winning run. Their next goal is to secure another victory against Delhi Capitals.
