The animated side of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was on display on Monday evening in Dambulla, as India A suffered their second consecutive defeat in the ongoing tri-series against Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A.

For the first time in his short career, Sooryavanshi got into an altercation, which went too far for many because he made physical contact with a Sri Lankan player. Keeping the spirit of the game in mind, questions about his attitude were rightly raised, but Ravichandran Ashwin, as always, had a unique take on the situation, reacting to the incident after the match.

Sooryavanshi gets into a physical fight

The incident occurred at the end of the fourth One Day of the tri-series, when Sri Lanka A defeated India A in an exciting super over clash.

The Lankans were coming into the match after a loss against India A earlier in the tournament. It was an eventful evening in Dambulla, which also saw a delay to the Super Over because Sri Lanka A took their time coming out to bat. Indians were already fuming because there were no floodlights and it was getting darker.

Furthermore, India failed to chase down 17 runs in the Super Over, resulting in their second consecutive loss of the competition.

At the end of the tiebreaker, Sooryavanshi was seen walking off the field quietly before a Sri Lankan player made some comment, getting the Indian star all riled up. Things got ugly as Sooryavanshi shoved the player, and Niroshan Dickwella had to separate them.

The 15-year-old exchanged more words on his way back to the pavilion and could face consequences for his actions.

In the aftermath of the match and the subsequent fight, Sooryavanshi faced a lot of heat from the fans and media for his conduct. While there is no official word about it yet, the player could face sanctions as well.

Interestingly, legendary cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin had a unique opinion on all this. He justified India's frustration after the delayed Super Over and even termed it 'great theatre' on his Twitter (X) account after the match.

Sooryavanshi's disappointing series

Having broken IPL records left, right and centre over the summer, there was a lot of anticipation regarding how the swashbuckling opener takes this form into his first One Day assignment for India A.

But, just ahead of what could be a historic week for him in Ireland and England, with a potential India debut as the youngest Indian men's player, he failed to carry on his form.

So far in the tri-series, he has played three innings, scoring 14(12), 44(22) and 21(14), while the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Suryansh Shedge have been impressive for the visitors. With one more match to go, he has 79 runs at a strike rate of 164.58. Courtesy of this, India are on the brink of getting knocked out of the tournament.

India will face Afghanistan A in their next match, and it will be a do-or-die game for them. This is where Sooryavanshi can redeem himself and potentially take India to the final.
