The controversy surrounding Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani has increased after the Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB issued an official statement defending its decision to impose a two-year ban on the player from the PSL 2026.

The board admitted that no formal contract had been signed between the player and the PSL franchise, Islamabad United.

The issue began when Muzarabani joined the KKR in the IPL 2026 season as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman. His move came shortly after reports in Pakistan claimed he had already secured a deal with Islamabad United for the PSL 2026.

PCB ban Blessing Muzarabani from PSL

The PCB announced strict disciplinary action, banning Blessing Muzarabani for two PSL seasons. In its official release, the board said the decision followed a fundamental failure to honour agreed-upon commitments.

“Following a thorough disciplinary review, the PCB has announced that Zimbabwean cricketer Blessing Muzarabani is declared ineligible to participate in the next two (2) editions of the HBL PSL, effective immediately. This decision stems from a fundamental failure to honor agreed-upon commitments, an action that undermines the professional framework of the league, “

According to reports, Islamabad United had approached Muzarabani and believed an agreement had been finalised.

However, the situation took a turn when Muzarabani joined KKR for the IPL instead. The PCB viewed this as a breach of commitment and imposed the ban, despite the player not being part of the PSL draft or having a formally signed contract.

Muzarabani's management team, World Sports Xchange, strongly rejected the PCB's claims. They stated that while discussions did take place with Islamabad United, the agreement was conditional upon receiving a formal contract and an NOC from Zimbabwe Cricket.

The agency clarified that no contract was ever sent to the player, making it impossible to proceed with the NOC process. They also dismissed reports suggesting that Muzarabani had officially signed with Islamabad United.

In a detailed statement, the agency argued that "you simply cannot breach a contract you have never received."

The agency further revealed that even weeks after the public announcement of his supposed signing, no formal paperwork had been provided. When KKR approached the player, he accepted the offer, seeing no binding obligation with the PSL franchise.

Mohsin Naqvi led PCB breaks the silence on Blessing Muzarabani

In a significant development, Mohsin Naqvi's PCB stated that no written contract had been issued, but believed a verbal agreement existed. According to board sources, essential terms such as payment and structure had been agreed upon through communication.

The PCB argued that such agreements, even without formal signatures, hold professional value and must be respected. As per a PTI report, Mohsin Naqvi's PCB cited a verbal agreement as the basis for the ban.

"In this instance, despite a clear offer and an unequivocal acceptance of essential terms, the player chose to disregard these obligations in favor of a conflicting arrangement," PCB had said in a statement last week.

Despite admitting the no-contract fact, Mohsin Naqvi's PCB has refused to lift the two-year ban on Blessing Muzarabani.
