The T20 World Cup 2026 has begun, and twenty teams are battling it out in India and Sri Lanka to get their hands on the coveted trophy. Before the tournament, India was mocked for its flat-tracks and predictions were passed that the 300-runs mark would be breached for the first time in the history of the tournament.
However, much to everyone’s dismay, the ICC has produced some balanced tracks and team are even struggling to put 200 runs on the board. So far, five matches have been played in the tournament, and none of the teams have breached the 200 runs mark, leave alone the 300-run figure.
Nonetheless, the broadcasters, during players' meetings before the T20 World Cup, asked the players to name-drop teams that can be the first side to score 300 runs in this edition.
Salman Agha, Fakhar Zaman ditch Pakistan to praise India
Much to everyone’s surprise, the same question was asked to Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha and southpaw Fakhar Zaman, who ditched Pakistan and took India’s name. Fakhar namedropped three sides - South Africa, India and Australia.
Agha, on the other hand, praised India and stated that the Men in Blue, in their backyard, can dominate and be the first to score 300 runs. However, he also added that the feat is still difficult in T20Is. Notably, England is the only full-member team to score 300 in T20Is against a full-member nation. However, the feat has not been achieved in the T20 World Cup.
Interestingly, Agha and Farkhar’s remarks and praise for India have come at a time when the relations between the two countries are at their worst. Further, PCB has also boycotted India's match in the T20 World Cup 2026, further damaging the relations.
West Indies, India top picks for 300+ total in T20Is
Other than Salman Agha and Fakhar Zaman, the likes of Rachin Ravindra, Sam Curran, Rovman Powell, Akeal Hossein, Romario Shepherd, all picked up India and the West Indies. At the end, India got the most votes (6), while the Windies were second on the list with 4 votes.
The reason why these professional cricketers picked India and the West Indies is because of their powerhitters. The Men in Blue have the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan and their recent performance have also shown that they are not far away from reaching 300 runs in T20Is.
For the unversed, India have breached the 240+ runs mark seven times since the last T20 World Cup. Further, they recently amassed 271/5 on the board against New Zealand, their second-highest total in the history of the tournament.
Meanwhile, West Indies need no introduction as they have Shimron Hetmyer, Sherfane Rutherford, Rovman Powell, Romario Shepherd, who can hit big sixes at their will. Therefore, they recieved four votes from players across nations during ICC interaction.
