Aaron Jones has been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for several breaches. As per an official ICC statement, the USA cricketer has been charged with five breaches of the anti-corruption codes of Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the ICC.
Majority of the charges relate with the CWI-backed Bim10 tournament of 2023-24, while couple of other charges relate to international matches.
ICC levels charges against USA cricketer for breaching CWI codes
The ICC has charged USA top-order batter Aaron Jones for five breaches of the anti-corruption codes. He has been found obstructing three offences pertaining to the Cricket West Indies (CWI), primarily from his time at the Bim10 tournament back in 2023-24.
As per the CWI code, Aaron Jones has been charged for breaching Article 2.1.1, Article 2.4.2 and Article 2.4.4.
The Article 2.1.1 of the CWI Code pertains to “Fixing, contriving to fix or otherwise influencing improperly, or being a party to an agreement or effort to fix or contrive in any way or otherwise influence improperly, the result, progress, conduct or other aspect of matches in the Bim10 tournament in 2023/24 (or attempting to do so).”
The Article 2.4.2 of the CWI code reads “Failing to disclose to Cricket West Indies details of any approaches or invitations to engage in conduct that would amount to a breach of the CWI Code.”
Lastly, the Article 2.4.4 of the CWI code involves a player “Failing or refusing to cooperate with a reasonable investigation carried out by the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (or his/her designee) in relation to possible offences under the CWI Code.”
Aaron Jones charged with two ICC code breaches
Aaron Jones has also seemingly found himself in major trouble on an international level, as the cricketer has been charged with two breaches of the ICC Code, namely the Article 2.4.4 and Article 2.4.7.
The Article 2.4.4 of the ICC Code reads, “Failing to disclose to the ICC ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in Corrupt Conduct under the ICC Code.”
On the other hand, the Article 2.4.7 indicates that Aaron Jones obstructed an “ACU’s investigation into possible Corrupt Conduct by concealing and/or tampering with information that may have been relevant to the investigation, or which may have constituted evidence or led to the discovery of evidence of Corrupt Conduct.”
The charges constitute a part of a wider investigation launched by the ICC against Aaron Jones. While he has been provisionally suspended from all forms of cricket, he has exactly two weeks starting from January 28 to respond to his charges.
