The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly locked the Pakistan squad for the upcoming three-match home T20I series against Australia next week. The series will serve as a crucial testing ground for both sides before next month’s 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

As per a report, the PCB is expected to announce the squad and training camp for the series within the next day or two.

PCB to announce squad soon, Australia to arrive on January 28

As reported by Geo News on Wednesday, January 21, the PCB will be naming Pakistan’s squad and training camp for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Australia before the end of the week. Sources indicate that the PCB is keen to rely heavily on spin in the series, with Usman Tariq on the radar of getting selected in the squad.

Tariq recently picked a match-winning hat-trick against Zimbabwe in a T20I tri-series at home a couple of months ago, thus becoming only the fourth Pakistani cricketer in history to do so.

The line-up is also expected to include senior fast bowler Shaheen Afridi, who recently sustained an injury in Australia during the BBL 2025-26 season. Middle-order batter Khawaja Nafay might also retain his place in the squad after making his international debut earlier this month in a series against Sri Lanka.

Salman Ali Agha to remain skipper till T20 World Cup 2026

Star all-rounder Salman Agha is set to continue as national captain as the Pakistan team preps itself for one final crack before the 2026 T20 World Cup next month.

The Australian T20I squad, on the other hand, is expected to arrive in Pakistan on Wednesday, January 28, i.e., just a day prior to the scheduled series-opener in Lahore. The series will mark Australia’s first T20I trip to Pakistan since their all-format tour of the country back in March and April 2022.

Pakistan vs Australia 2026: A final crack before T20 World Cup

The Pakistan vs Australia three-match T20I series will be played between January 29 and February 1. All three matches will be hosted by the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The series will mark final dress rehearsal for both sides before the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup next month.

In the World Cup, the Pakistan cricket team is paired in Group A alongside Netherlands, USA, Namibia and arch-rivals as well as tournament co-hosts India. The Australian team is placed in Group B alongside Ireland, Oman, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

Pakistan will kick-off the 2026 T20 World Cup with a match against Netherlands on February 7 in Colombo’s SSC Cricket Ground. Australia’s opening match of the tournament will be played against Ireland on February 11 at the R. Premadasa Stadium.

Australia won the T20 World Cup back in late-2021 in the UAE. Incidentally, the Australian team defeated Pakistan in a tense semifinal showdown before toppling New Zealand in the title clash.

The Pakistan team, meanwhile, has reached the final of a T20 World Cup just once since winning the 2009 edition of the competition in England.
