Rizwan, who was removed from the squad after the second Test at Lord's, was summoned by the National Crime Agency to investigate alleged match-fixing. After the initial visit in the first weeks of September, he refused to appear again when called by the agency. It can even lead to a multi-year or lifetime ban or termination of his central contract, since the PCB maintains a zero-tolerance policy for code-of-conduct breaches. Rizwan might also face heavy financial penalties, with criminal prosecution also falling under the online gambling category, because there are strict cybercrime laws in Pakistan that could lead to statutory criminal charges, including jail time, independent of sports governing sanctions.Full timeline of Mohammad Rizwan controversy with PCBThe rejected petition from Rizwan has now added to his substantial amount of cricketing, personal, and professional woes that have been mounting up since late August. During Pakistan's 2026 tour of England, Rizwan managed only 61 runs across four innings, and the PCB sent him back home, citing performance as well as behavioural and conduct issues. That period also saw the cricket board issuing show-cause notices to selectors, with Misbah-ul-Haq, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Umar Gul also being stripped of their roles. In early September, Mohammad Rizwan missed the President Trophy Grade-I due to an incomplete mandatory fitness test, which further blocked his opportunity to prove his worth with the bat. Later, in the first weeks of September, the PCB seized Rizwan's phone, and there was also a complaint filed with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency over alleged dressing-room leaks, contract meetings in England, and financial monitoring. Notably, Rizwan appeared before the NCCIA in Lahore for two hours of questioning, with the cricketer also confirming full cooperation while questioning why his phone has not been returned yet in a written response.
