BCCI Punishes Nandre Burger For Major Mistake In IPL 2026

In a recent development, Nandre Burger has been penalised by the BCCI following the match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 22 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. 

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals registered a convincing 40-run win over LSG in Match 32 of IPL 2026. As a result, this victory has kept their campaign on track and improved their chances of finishing near the top of the table.

To begin with, RR got off to an aggressive start as openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored 20 runs in just two overs. However, the momentum shifted quickly when Mohammed Shami struck twice in quick succession. He dismissed Jaiswal for 22 and then removed Dhruv Jurel for a golden duck. 

Soon after, Mohsin Khan added more pressure with tight bowling and dismissed Sooryavanshi for 8. As a result, RR lost early wickets and struggled to maintain their strong start.

Despite the setbacks, Ravindra Jadeja played a crucial innings, scoring 43 runs off 29 balls. Meanwhile, LSG’s bowlers, including Shami, Prince Yadav, and Mohsin Khan, kept things under control with disciplined bowling. Because of this, RR were restricted to 159/6 in their 20 overs.

In response, RR’s bowlers stepped up and delivered an excellent performance while defending the target. They bowled out LSG for just 119 runs in 18 overs.

BCCI takes action against Nandre Burger

Notably, Nandre Burger had a good outing in the match. He bowled effectively and finished with figures of two wickets for 27 runs in his four overs.

However, despite his strong performance, Burger was fined 10 percent of his match fees. He also received one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.

According to the official statement, he committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5. This rule relates to using inappropriate language, actions, or gestures that could provoke another player. Burger accepted the punishment given by the match referee.

"Nandre Burger admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 - pertaining to using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a another player in the Match - and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction," the IPL statement read.

What is Nandre Burger’s IPL salary and how much will be deducted?

Nandre Burger was retained by Rajasthan Royals for ₹3.5 crore for the IPL 2026 season. However, the exact amount of the fine is not known because players’ per-match fees are not publicly disclosed. So, it is unclear how much money will actually be deducted.

After this win, Rajasthan Royals moved up to second place in the points table. Furthermore, their Net Run Rate improved from 0.599 to 0.790, which is a significant boost.

At present, they are just one point behind Punjab Kings. Looking ahead, RR will face Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 25 and will aim to continue their winning momentum.
