In a shocking incident, three Indian cricket players have been suspended from all forms of cricket for assaulting an under-19 coach. 

The Cricket Association of Puducherry, which comes under the governance of the BCCI, has imposed severe sanctions on three players, filing a chargesheet against them for criminal offence. 

The shocking development has rocked Indian cricket amid IPL 2026. In a country where disciples treat their coaches and teachers like demigods, such a horrific incident has raised questions over Indian culture and ethics, which the great nation is known for. 

Puducherry cricketers booked under criminal charges

Three renowned players from the Puducherry cricket team- J Karthikeyan, A Aravindaraj and S Santhosh Kumaran- have been accused of assaulting Mr. Venkataraman, who coaches the under-19 team. 

The scandalous incident happened on December 8, 2025, following which a formal complaint was lodged against these three players. However, details on why these players tried to kill the under-19 coach are yet to be made public. 

A chargesheet has been filed against the aforementioned cricketers in Sedurapet Police Station under physical assault and attempt to murder charges. The matter is currently under the jurisdiction of Hon'ble Judicial Magistrate - IV Court, Puducherry. 

Cricket Association of Puducherry suspends the accused

Therefore, the Cricket Association of Puducherry has banned them from all cricketing activities with immediate effect. Notably, the CAP is affiliated with the BCCI, the supreme body of cricket administration in the country. 

The Cricket Association of Puducherry has also barred J Karthikeyan, A Aravindaraj and S Santhosh Kumaran from entering any CAP-controlled facility, including the CAP Siechem campus in Tutipet, Puducherry.

As a result, these three players won't be allowed to represent the Cricket Association of Puducherry in either domestic or other tournaments. 

According to a statement by the CAP, J Karthikeyan, A Aravindaraj and S Santhosh Kumaran will remain suspended until the Honourable Court acquits them of all charges. As revealed by ESPNCricinfo, the CAP imposed the following four-point sanctions on these players. 

  • They are suspended with immediate effect from all cricketing activities conducted under the aegis of CAP.
  • They are strictly prohibited and banned from entering the CAP Siechem campus, Tutipet, Pondicherry and any CAP-controlled premises until further orders.
  • They shall not be permitted to represent CAP in any capacity in domestic or external cricket tournaments/activities.
  • This suspension shall remain in force until the Hon'ble Court adjudicates the matter and clears the accused of all charges.

Who are J Karthiyeyan, A Aravindaraj and S Santhosh Kumaran?

Jayasundaram Karthikeyan is a 32-year-old cricketer, who plays as a batter for Puducherry. He has played six domestic matches, including one First-Class, three List-A and two T20s. 

A Aravindaraj is a right-arm bowler, who has represented Puducherry across 24 domestic matches, including four First-Class, five List-A and 15 T20s. He has bagged 16 wickets combined in all three formats. 

Meanwhile, S Santhosh Kumaran is a 28-year-old cricketer, who made his debut back in December 2018. He has played three domestic matches, including one First-Class and two T20 fixtures for Puducherry. 

Talking about Puducherry, they last featured in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy, where they found it tough to get going. Led by Neyan Shyam Kangayan, Puducherry managed a solitary victory in seven outings, finishing sixth on the points table.
