Kusal Mendis has been appointed as Sri Lanka captain for both white-ball formats. India Women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur has received the prestigious Padma Shri. In other news, Megan Schutt has revealed her retirement plans.

Megan Schutt reveals retirement plans

Australian fast bowler Megan Schutt has confirmed that the upcoming 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will be her final appearance in any multi-nation ICC event. While the 33-year-old has not set her exact retirement date yet, the senior cricketer stated that she will be making the decision shortly after the conclusion of the tournament in England.

Schutt made her international debut way back in December 2012, and has so far represented Australia Women in 240 matches across formats.

Rajasthan Royals coach Sangakkara predicts Riyan Parag’s captaincy future

Rajasthan Royals head coach Kumar Sangakkara has implied that current skipper Riyan Parag will continue to lead the franchise for many seasons going ahead. The star middle-order batter recently led the franchise to the playoffs of the IPL 2026 season, thus becoming the fourth and final team of the tournament to do so.

Sangakkara also praised Parag for his ability of handling the pressure on the big stage.

Kusal Mendis to lead Sri Lanka in West Indies

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has unveiled Sri Lanka’s all-format squad for the upcoming hectic tour of West Indies. The board named Kusal Mendis as the new national captain of T20I and ODI teams, replacing Dasun Shanaka and Charith Asalanka in the process respectively.

Wanindu Hasaranga was also included in the white-ball setups after his recovery from injury. Dhananjaya de Silva will continue to lead the Sri Lankan Test side on the tour.

Harmanpreet Kaur receives Padma Shri

India Women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur received the prestigious Padma Shri at the Civil Investiture Ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The cricketer received the honour from Indian President Droupadi Murmu in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

Back in January this year, it was confirmed that Harmanpreet will be receiving the Padma Shri for leading India Women to a historic 2025 World Cup win at home.

Hazlewood, Cummins and Starc backed for 2027 World Cup

Australian fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood, captain Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have been backed to keep playing for the country till next year’s 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup in South Africa. Coach Andrew McDonald claimed that the three speedsters have been rested as part of their workload management ahead of crucial Tests.

Hazlewood, Cummins and Starc also skipped the 2026 T20 World Cup owing to various reasons, and are currently in India for IPL 2026.
