Marizanne Kapp has been ruled out of South Africa’s upcoming three-match ODI series against Pakistan Women. The legendary all-rounder has been rested after feeling discomfort in the third T20I match earlier this week in Benoni.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has now named an uncapped Proteas star as a replacement for Kapp for the series between February 22 and March 1.

Fay Cowling earns maiden call-up as Kapp ruled out
On Thursday, February 19, i.e., a couple of days prior to the launch of South Africa’s ODI series against Pakistan Women, CSA dropped a massive update regarding the availability of legendary all-rounder Marizanne Kapp.
Taking to social media, the Proteas Women handle stated that Kapp will miss the ODI series due to illness. She will now be taken for further medical assessments, and South Africa’s medical team has advised her to take a precautionary rest.
It is worth noting that Marizanne Kapp felt a sense of discomfort during South Africa’s third T20I of the series against Pakistan earlier this week. The legendary speedster bowled just three overs during the Pakistani innings, and was ‘absent hurt’ with the bat as South Africa lost the match by 53 runs.
Despite suffering a big defeat at the Willowmoore Park in Benoni, the Proteas Women still clinched the three-match T20I series 2-1.
Who is Fay Cowling
CSA also called up Fay Cowling to join the South Africa Women’s national squad as a replacement of Marizanne Kapp. As per the update, Cowling was called up after impressing the selectors at the national training camp in Tshwane last month.
Aged 18, Fay Cowling was part of the South Africa U19 team that reached the final of the 2025 ICC Women’s U19 World Cup in Malaysia last year. While she delivered a match-winning spell against Samoa in the group stage of the tournament, the cricketer failed to make an impact against India on the big day in Kuala Lumpur.
Quite recently, Fay Cowling turned up for the Lions Women in the 2026 CSA Women Pro20 Series as well as in the CSA Women Pro50 Series.
South Africa to face Pakistan with World Cup qualification on the line
South Africa’s upcoming three-match home ODI series against Pakistan Women also constitutes a part of the 2025–2029 ICC Women's Championship. The championship itself forms a road to the qualification for the 2029 ICC Women’s World Cup.
After reaching the final of the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup back in November last year in India, the Proteas Women crushed Ireland by a 3-0 margin at home.
Ahead of the series, here is a look at the updated squad of the South Africa Women’s team:
Laura Wolvaardt (c), Tazmin Brits, Fay Cowling, Nadine de Klerk, Annerie Dercksen, Lara Goodall, Ayanda Hlubi, Sinalo Jafta, Suné Luus, Karabo Meso, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Tumi Sekhukhune, Nondumiso Shangase, Chloé Tryon and Faye Tunnicliffe.
On a trail of three successive wins, South Africa’s series-opening ODI against Pakistan will be hosted by the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein on February 22. The series will continue with matches in Centurion and Durban on February 25 and March 1 respectively.
