Virat Kohli continued his excellent form in the 34th match of IPL 2026, playing a brilliant innings against Gujarat Titans at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday, April 24.

However, despite his strong performance, the former RCB captain appeared visibly frustrated after being dismissed by Jason Holder, falling just short of a well-earned century.

To begin with, Gujarat Titans started aggressively after being put in to bat. Notably, Sai Sudharsan led the charge during the powerplay, consistently finding the boundaries. At the same time, Shubman Gill provided solid support at the other end. As a result, the team reached 57 without loss in the first six overs.

Gujarat Titans begin with a strong foundation

However, their opening partnership came to an end in the 13th over when Suyash Sharma dismissed Gill for 32. Following that, useful contributions from Jos Buttler (25), Holder (23*), and Washington Sundar (19*) helped maintain momentum.

Nevertheless, Sudharsan stood out with a superb 100 off 58 balls, anchoring the innings. Meanwhile, RCB managed to slow things down in the final overs, restricting Gujarat Titans to 205/3.

Virat Kohli anchors the chase with confidence

In reply, RCB had a slightly shaky start when Virat Kohli was dropped for zero by Sundar in the very first over. However, this mistake proved costly, as Kohli made the most of the opportunity.

As the innings progressed, Virat Kohli looked in complete control. He played a variety of elegant shots and quickly built his score. Moreover, he formed a strong 115-run partnership with Devdutt Padikkal, who contributed an impressive 55 off 27 balls.

Jason Holder turns the game

During the 14th over, Virat Kohli seemed unstoppable. Firstly, he hit Jason Holder for a powerful six over deep mid-wicket. Then, on the very next delivery, he struck another six straight over the bowler’s head. At that moment, a century looked almost certain.

However, the situation changed quickly. Jason Holder responded cleverly with a slower bouncer, which Kohli failed to read properly. As a result, the ball deflected onto the stumps, bringing his innings to an unexpected end.

Although Kohli’s wicket caused a brief setback, RCB remained in a strong position. However, they did experience a short collapse, slipping from 141/1 to 173/5, which gave Gujarat Titans a slight chance to come back.

Nevertheless, Krunal Pandya (23*) and Tim David (10*) kept their composure. Consequently, they guided the team to victory in the penultimate over.

In the end, RCB won the match by 5 wickets with 7 balls to spare. As a result, they moved up to second place on the IPL 2026 points table, just behind Punjab Kings.
