In a massive setback for Lucknow Super Giants, one of their key overseas players has been ruled out of the IPL 2026. Led by Rishabh Pant, LSG have been abysmal as a unit in the IPL this season.

Although the Super Giants kick-started the tournament with convincing wins over SRH and KKR, the persistent failure of their batting unit derailed their campaign. As a result, LSG are staring at a humiliating group-stage exit, claiming ninth position with two victories across seven outings.

Meanwhile, as they eye redemption in the competition, Rishabh Pant's Super Giants have suffered a major setback, with Anrich Nortje set to be sidelined by an injury.

Injured Anrich Nortje has left LSG camp, confirms Bharat Arun

In the latest development, Lucknow Super Giants' bowling coach Bharat Arun confirmed that experienced South African pacer Anrich Nortje has returned to his home after sustaining an injury.

Speaking to TOI, the former Indian coach reckoned that the Super Giants are relying on their Indian pace battery, with Nortje returning to South Africa following an injury setback.

"Our bowling attack is predominantly Indian. In fact, apart from Anrich Nortje, who was injured and has gone back, we haven't really had an overseas presence in the bowling group. But this is a very exciting Indian bowling unit, and we have a lot of belief in them," Arun stated.

As revealed by T20 Tracker, Anrich Nortje will likely miss the remainder of the IPL 2026, as he'll spend time with his wife, with the couple expecting twins.

How did Anrich Nortje perform in IPL 2026?

Anrich Nortje had a decent T20 World Cup 2026 campaign in India, where he bagged three wickets in two matches at an economy of 7.13. However, his IPL 2026 journey was far from ideal, as he went wicketless and conceded 39 runs in four overs.

Nortje, who was signed by LSG for INR 2 crores, played a solitary game before leaving the team midway through the competition.

In his absence, Mohammed Shami has teamed up with Prince Yadav, Avesh Khan, Mohsin Khan and Mayank Yadav to spearhead the LSG pace attack.

How have LSG pace bowlers fared in IPL 2026?

While Anrich Nortje's injury is definitely a setback, the LSG fast bowlers haven't let the team feel his absence.

Although their batting unit, comprising Mitch Marsh, Aiden Markram, Ayush Badoni, Nicholas Pooran and skipper Rishabh Pant, hasn't lived up to the expectations, the Super Giants' bowling unit has made the opponent batters dance to their tunes.

Prince Yadav leads the chart with 13 wickets under his belt, while Mohammed Shami has emerged as the Super Giants' wrecker-in-chief with the new ball.

Mohsin Khan has consistently troubled the batters with his pace and accuracy. Meanwhile, Mayank Yadav and Avesh Khan can undoubtedly fill Anrich Nortje's void with their hit-the-deck bowling attributes.

LSG's upcoming fixture in IPL 2026

Reeling at ninth with five losses in seven matches, the Lucknow Super Giants will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in match 38 of the IPL 2026. The high-voltage clash will be played at the Ekana Stadium on Sunday, April 26.
