Punjab Kings surpassed RCB to take the top spot on the IPL 2026 points table. Sanju Samson has been shortlisted by the ICC for a huge award. In other news, Hardik Pandya is set to make his return as Mumbai Indians captain in the playing XI.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Monday, April 6.

Sameer Rizvi, Ravi Bishnoi retain caps; PBKS jump to the top

Delhi Capitals batter Sameer Rizvi continues to hold the coveted Orange Cap of the IPL 2026 season for scoring 160 runs in just two innings with two half-centuries. Rajasthan Royals spinner Ravi Bishnoi also retained his Purple Cap as he remains the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with five scalps in just two innings at an impressive bowling average of 11.40.

On the points table, the Punjab Kings franchise surpassed defending champions RCB, as well as Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals to take the number one spot on the 10-team standings. The Shreyas Iyer-led side attained the feat following their no-result against KKR, as a shared point catapulted them to five points from three matches.

Virat Kohli praises Dhurandhar

RCB legend and former Indian captain Virat Kohli took to his Instagram account to share his admiration for the 2026 Bollywood smash hit, Dhurandhar The Revenge. Taking his time off the field amid the ongoing IPL 2026 season, the cricketer seems to have finally watched the film with his wife and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, considering both dazzling personalities took to their Instagram account to praise the movie.

Director Aditya Dhar also responded to Kohli’s praise, and called himself a huge fan of the cricketer since his Under-19 playing days.

Hardik Pandya is available, confirms MI coach

Hardik Pandya is available to play for Mumbai Indians in their upcoming IPL 2026 match against the Rajasthan Royals, as confirmed by bowling coach Paras Mhambrey. While speaking with the reporters, the coach stated that Pandya was not injured in the first place, and was only rested from the playing XI against Delhi Capitals earlier this month because he was unwell at the time.

The all-rounder has since had a couple of training sessions with the team as Mumbai Indians gear up to face the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on April 7.

Sanju Samson, Jasprit Bumrah nominated for ICC award

Sanju Samson and Jasprit Bumrah have been shortlisted by the ICC for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for the month of March 2026. The two Indian cricketers made it to the contention for their T20 World Cup 2026 heroics for the Indian team. The ICC also nominated South Africa’s Connor Esterhuizen for his prolific run in the T20I series against New Zealand.

In the women’s category, the ICC has nominated New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr, Australia’s Beth Mooney and South Africa’s Ayabonga Khaka.

Hasaranga availability for LSG under cloud

Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga is yet to undergo the SLC-mandated fitness test in Sri Lanka. It is worth noting that the senior cricketer had picked up an injury during the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Since he needs to clear the fitness test in a bid to receive an NoC from the board, Hasaranga’s IPL 2026 participation for the LSG franchise now falls under darker clouds.
