In a major development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly extended the deadline for IPL franchises to submit their player retention lists by two days. IPL teams will now have time until November 17 to finalise their retention and release decisions for the IPL 2027 season.

Earlier, the deadline was set for November 15. However, according to a latest report by Cricbuzz, the BCCI has given franchises two additional days to complete the process.

The decision is believed to have been taken because of India's series against New Zealand, with the final IND vs NZ 5th ODI match scheduled for November 15.

Why Has BCCI Extended IPL 2027 Retention Deadline?

It is worth noting that the BCCI has decided to extend the IPL 2027 retention deadline because of India’s ODI schedule against New Zealand.

With the final game of the series taking place on November 15 at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, franchises have been given more time to complete discussions and finalise their squad plans.

The additional 48 hours could help team managements assess their current combinations, identify players they wish to keep and decide which names should enter the auction pool.

IPL 2027 Mini-Auction Date and Venue Remain Unchanged

While the retention deadline has been extended (as per the latest report by Cricbuzz), there has been no change to the schedule of the IPL 2027 mini-auction.

As per the latest communication sent to the franchises, the event will take place on December 16 in Goa. The BCCI has maintained the original auction date despite another international match being scheduled for the same day.

India are set to face Sri Lanka in the second ODI of their series on December 16, and the match will be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

As of now, all franchises must submit their final retention lists by November 17. The mini-auction will then follow the existing schedule, with Goa set to host the event on December 16.
