The Women’s Asia Cup is currently underway in Dubai, and the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian side are the firm favourite, not only to reach the final, but to capture the trophy. However, as the India Men’s team still awaits the Asia Cup trophy, the Women’s side could face the same if they win the marquee event.

The ACC President, Mohsin Naqvi, is set to attend the Asia Cup final this Sunday, and if reports are to be believed, then the Indian Women's team might not take the trophy from him if they win the coveted competition.

According to the latest report by GS Vivek, Consulting Editor, ABP News, Naqvi will want to hand over the trophy to the winning team after the match, but Team India have already made up their mind, as they are set to ignore the Chairman and will not take the trophy from him.

The PCB Chairman, Naqvi, has been invited as the chief guest for the closing ceremony, and the situation points towards another Asia Cup chaos, just like what transpired when the Indian men won the trophy in 2025.

If such a situation indeed arises, where the Women in Blue neglect Naqvi, there is a possibility that the ACC President could keep the trophy in his cabinet.

What happened the last time Naqvi came to present the Asia Cup trophy?

The entire 2025 Asia Cup was marred by controversies, with Team India not shaking hands with Pakistan players in all three matches they played. Moreover, the two sides collided in a fiery finale, and courtesy of a Tilak Varma knock, India prevailed.

Drama started after the match ended as Naqvi waited on the podium for about half an hour as he waited for the Indian team to collect their medal and the trophy from him.

The Suryakumar Yadav-led side wanted to collect the trophy from another ACC official, and this infuriated the PCB Chairman, as he took the trophy with him and locked it inside the ACC office in Dubai.

The BCCI held multiple discussions with all the ACC members regarding the same, but nearly a year later, nothing has happened, as the trophy still lies in the ACC office.

No handshake during India vs Pakistan Women's Asia Cup match

Both India and Pakistan met in the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup group stage match, and while the contest was a one-sided match, with India dominating the proceedings, drama unfolded as Harmanpreet Kaur and Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana ignored each other during the toss. 

A handshake is not mandatory, but it is a positive sign of sportsmanship between the players. Something similar happened between the two sides during the Women’s T20 World Cup match, as the teams ignored each other right from the start.

Will India and Pakistan again collide in Women's Asia Cup final?

India have already qualified for the Women’s Asia Cup semis by winning three out of three in the group stage. Pakistan, however, have a 1:1 win-loss ratio currently, and they still have a game to be played in the group stage. 

The Fatima Sana-led side will take on Hong Kong in their last group stage match, and if they win, the team will progress towards the semis, where they will encounter Sri Lanka.

Hence, if both India and Pakistan do win their respective semifinal matches, they will once again meet in the final on Sunday.
