The rise of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become one of the biggest stories in Indian cricket. At just 15 years old, the young batter has taken the world by storm with his fearless batting in IPL 2026.

His performances have also forced selectors to seriously consider him for India's future plans, including the 2027 ODI World Cup.

According to several reports, the BCCI officials are already monitoring him closely, and there is growing belief that his India debut could happen sooner than expected.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to feature for India-A

It is important to mention that Sooryavanshi will next play for India-A in the ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka. The tournament, featuring Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A, will take place in Dambulla from June 9 to June 21.

The BCCI has named Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the 15-member India A squad, led by Tilak Varma, with Riyan Parag serving as vice-captain.

Selectors reportedly want to test the teenager in different conditions and observe how he handles pressure at a higher level.

The squad also includes several promising young players such as Priyansh Arya, Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Prabhsimran Singh, and Anshul Kamboj.

India A will also play two four-day matches in Galle after the ODI series.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi challenges Rohit, Jaiswal's ODI spots

According to recent reports from Cricblogger, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's performances for India-A will play a major role in deciding how quickly he moves into the senior Indian setup.

If Sooryavanshi continues his current form, he could become part of India's squad for the 2027 World Cup.

"Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could soon be seen playing for the Indian senior team. His batting form in the India A series is expected to be monitored closely by the selectors, and if things continue the way they are progressing, he could well become a part of India’s squad for the 2027 World Cup", sources told CricBlogger.

Interestingly, discussions around India's opening combination have also intensified with focus on the ODI World Cup 2027.

Questions remain over whether Rohit Sharma will continue until the 2027 World Cup, given fitness concerns and workload management.

At the same time, Yashasvi Jaiswal is not included in India's recent ODI squad for the Afghanistan tour, although he remains part of the Test side.

This situation has opened the door for Sooryavanshi to emerge as a serious contender, and, if reports are to be believed, the young player from Bihar might be in the BCCI's plans for the 2027 World Cup.

"Sooryavanshi is bound to play for India in no time. The board members are all keen to see how he copes with international cricket after ruling the IPL," a source told CricBlogger.

"If Sooryavanshi continues to impress the way he is doing at the moment, the sky is truly the limit for the young sensation," the source added.

However, it will be interesting to see how Vaibhav Sooryavanshi performs for India-A and whether he can impress the BCCI selectors, as the marquee tournament is still more than a year away.
