In an important update, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced the match officials for the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Now that the four semi-finalist teams have been confirmed, the ICC has revealed the names of the umpires and referees who will oversee these important matches.
Notably, the ICC has appointed a total of eight umpires, which includes on-field umpires, third umpires, and fourth umpires. In addition, two match referees have also been named for the semi-final games.
As always, the ICC has made sure to appoint neutral officials for each match to ensure fairness and transparency.
Teams Qualified for T20 World Cup semifinals
Before looking at the officials, it is important to understand how the teams reached this stage. The semi-final line-up for the T20 World Cup 2026 is now confirmed.
From Super 8 Group 1, South Africa and India finished as the top two teams and secured their spots in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, from Group 2, England and New Zealand qualified for the knockout stage.
During the Super 8 round, each team played one match against the other three teams in their group. After that, the group standings decided which four teams would move forward to the semi-finals.

The semi-finals will take place on March 4 and March 5, 2026. In the first semi-final, South Africa will face New Zealand at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. After that, India will take on England in the second semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Match officials for SA vs NZ
For the first semi-final between South Africa and New Zealand, Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf have been appointed as the on-field umpires.
Interestingly, Illingworth previously officiated at this stage two years ago when South Africa defeated Afghanistan by nine wickets after bowling them out for just 56 runs. On the other hand, Wharf was in charge when New Zealand defeated Afghanistan during the group stage of this T20 World Cup.
In addition to the on-field umpires, Nitin Menon will serve as the third umpire, while Rod Tucker will take up the role of fourth umpire. Furthermore, Javagal Srinath has been appointed as the match referee for this game.
Match officials for IND vs ENG
Meanwhile, the second semi-final between India and England in Mumbai will be supervised by Chris Gaffaney and Allahuddien Paleker as the on-field umpires.
Notably, India and England also met in the semi-finals at the Providence Stadium in 2024, where India won by 68 runs. Gaffaney was one of the umpires in that match as well. In the current tournament, he has already officiated India’s matches against South Africa and the West Indies.
Similarly, Paleker has overseen two England matches in this T20 World Cup, against the West Indies and Scotland. Additionally, he was also the on-field umpire when India defeated the Netherlands by 17 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
For this SA vs NZ, Adrian Holdstock has been named as the third umpire, while Paul Reiffel will serve as the fourth umpire. Moreover, Andy Pycroft will act as the match referee.
