Captain Kusal Mendis accepted the proposed sanction after admitting the offence, meaning there was no need for a formal hearing.Why Did ICC Fine 15% of Match Fees to Sri Lanka After 1st ODI vs England?Sri Lanka were fined 15% of their match fees after the first ODI against England for maintaining a slow over-rate during their bowling innings. They were found to be three overs short of the required rate after all time allowances had been taken into consideration.Sri Lanka had been asked to bowl first after England won the toss and eventually bowled the hosts out for 265 in 48.1 overs. Since Sri Lanka were three overs behind the required rate, the players were fined 15 % of their match fees.The charge was brought by on-field umpires Wayne Knights and Graham Lloyd, third umpire Adrian Holdstock and fourth umpire James Middlebrook.
