In a significant development, Gujarat Titans are ready with their retentions for IPL 2027. Reports suggest that IPL 2022 winners have a small list of players to be released, which includes two marquee stars - Glenn Phillips and Shahrukh Khan.

Kushan Sarkar of PTI reported that GT, who were the runners-up in the last edition, will release Glenn Phillips and Shahrukh Khan to free up their purse ahead of the IPL 2027 auction.

Gujarat Titans planning to strengthen middle-order ahead of IPL 2027

Gujarat Titans have one of the finest top-orders among all teams currently. The likes of Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, and Jos Buttler have been consistent for the past two seasons, but the middle-order has struggled.

GT’s lack of experience in the middle-order got exposed in the final itself when the top-order collapsed early, and the Titans could only pose 155 runs on the board. Therefore, they want to strengthen that department ahead of IPL 2027.

Talking about Glenn Phillips, the New Zealand star was retained by Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026 at a salary of 2 crores. Shahrukh Khan earns 4 crores at the Titans. So, the Shubman Gill-led side can free upto 6 crores by releasing their 2 marquee stars.

Why GT are planning to release Glenn Phillips and Shahrukh Khan?

If we talk about numbers, Phillips and Khan have struggled at Gujarat. Glenn Phillips missed the majority of IPL 2025 due to a groin injury. He was available for selection in IPL 2026 and played 5 matches and scored just 67 runs, averaging 16.75 with the bat.

Even following IPL 2026, Phillips struggled across tournaments. The right-handed batter played in CPL 2026, where he scored 163 runs in 8 innings, averaging 20.38.

Shahrukh Khan, on the other hand, also played 5 matches in IPL 2026, amassing 43 runs and averaging 10.75 with the bat. The right-handed batter also struggled in TNPL 2026, where he scored 212 runs in 9 innings and aveaged 26.50.
