The Gujarat Titans beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 56th match of the IPL 2026 season. With that win, GT strengthened its playoff qualification odds by landing in the second spot on the points table.

GT crushed SRH with a totally dominating performance. From bat to ball, the Sunrisers had no answer to the Titans as they went down to an 82-run loss at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Gujarat Titans’ upcoming matches in IPL 2026

Meanwhile, for the Gujarat Titans to ensure a confirmed playoff spot, they have to win at least one out of their remaining two games. GT have already played 12 games, winning 8 while losing 4, thus grabbing 16 points to grab the top spot on the points table.

Their next game will be against KKR on Saturday, May 16, at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. KKR are also alive in the playoff race, and with the home-condition advantage, they are likely to give a tough fight to GT.

Then, for the last league fixture of the IPL 2026 season, GT will face five-time champions, CSK. This game will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, May 21.

Interestingly, CSK’s playoff hopes are hanging by a thread. Regardless, they will also be giving a tough fight to GT.

Sai Sudharsan, Washington Sundar fought on a tough pitch

Coming back to the GT vs SRH game, the Titans had a tough time with the bat in the first innings. After losing Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler early in the powerplay, Sai Sudharsan came to the rescue, scoring 61.

His half-century anchored GT’s sinking ship in the middle overs. However, to reach a respectable total, the Titans still needed a strong finish in the death overs, and that’s when Washington Sundar stepped up.

Sundar scored a brilliant 50* off 33 balls as the Gujarat Titans finished with 168/5. For SRH, Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain grabbed 2 wickets. But Eshan Malinga conceded 48 runs.

SRH plunged to a brutal collapse

While the 168-run total appeared chaseable on paper, Sunrisers Hyderabad made a complete mess in the second innings. They lost the explosive opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head inside the first 2 overs.

Ishan Kishan and Smaran Ravichandran also departed on cheap scores, which marked the beginning of a humiliating collapse. Gujarat Titans’ bowlers kept attacking relentlessly, never allowing SRH any momentum during the middle overs.

Jason Holder completely dismantled the lower middle order by removing Klaasen, Nitish Reddy and Shivang Kumar in quick succession. Pat Cummins briefly entertained with a rapid 19 off just nine balls, smashing two sixes, but Prasidh Krishna ended that resistance as well.

The biggest concern for SRH was the lack of partnerships throughout the innings. No batter managed to score 20, and the team was bowled out for just 86 in 14.5 overs, thus enduring an 82-run defeat.

With that, GT are now the new table toppers, while SRH dropped to the third spot with 14 points.
