Gujarat Titans fans have received a positive update regarding one of their most important players ahead of IPL 2026. Sai Sudharsan, who has been sidelined recently due to a rib injury, is on the road to recovery and is expected to return fully fit in time for the next IPL season.
Notably, this update was shared by Gujarat Titans’ chief operating officer, Colonel Arvinder Singh, who addressed concerns around the young batter’s fitness.
What happened to Sai Sudharsan?
Sai Sudharsan suffered a fracture on the front part of his seventh rib on the right side while making a diving run during a VHT match in Ahmedabad.
This injury happened in the same area where he had already taken a blow earlier in the tournament during a practice session. As a result, the repeated impact caused further damage to the rib.
Following this, he went to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru on December 29 to focus on his recovery and rehabilitation. Since then, he has not taken part in any matches and has been concentrating fully on getting back to full fitness.
Due to his absence from competitive cricket, questions began to arise about whether he would be fit in time for the upcoming IPL season.
Gujarat Titans’ COO provides Sai Sudharsan's injury update
Colonel Arvinder Singh, however, cleared the air by stating that Sudharsan’s injury is not serious in nature. According to him, the medical team is closely monitoring the player’s progress, and all signs point towards a complete recovery well before the start of IPL 2026.
"Sai will be absolutely fit. It's nothing serious... It's an abrasion how they describe it in medical terms. It's not a full-fledged fracture," Arvinder told PTI.
During the same interaction, the GT COO also shared his views on Shubman Gill missing out on selection for India’s squad in the 2026 T20 World Cup, scheduled to begin on February 7. Gill struggled to make a strong impact after returning to the T20 format during the Asia Cup.
"These are minor hiccups that do happen in any sportsman's life. He's already made his stand very clear. He respects the decision of the selectors. And all I can say is, knowing him, he'll come back even stronger as you can see now in the two games that he's played. He'll come back even a better cricketer than what he was you know, going forward," Arvinder said.
Sai Sudharsan in good touch ahead of IPL 2026
It is worth mentioning that Sudharsan remains a vital figure for the Gujarat Titans. His contribution during IPL 2025 was exceptional, as he won the Orange Cap after scoring 759 runs in 15 matches at an impressive strike rate of 156.17.
The Tamil Nadu batter’s tally included one century and six half-centuries, making him one of the most reliable batters of the season. Losing a player of his quality would have been a significant concern for the franchise.
Beyond the IPL, Sudharsan has shown excellent form in domestic cricket as well. In the ongoing VHT, he added 99 runs across two games before sustaining the injury. These performances show his ability to deliver consistently under pressure.
With his recovery progressing well, Gujarat Titans supporters can remain optimistic. Sudharsan is expected to regain full fitness ahead of IPL 2026, strengthening the team’s batting lineup once again with Shubman Gill and co.
