The BCCI will hold a performance review meeting with the Indian team on Thursday, and the roadmap for the 2027 World Cup will also be discussed. The Men in Blue failed to deliver on the UK tour, and the red-ball team wasted a golden opportunity to whitewash Sri Lanka in the two-match Test series.
Apart from the poor performances in recent months, the injury-related issues will also be a focal point during the BCCI review meeting. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and the Centre of Excellence head, VVS Laxman, will be present at the BCCI headquarters on Thursday, and India’s injury problems will be discussed in detail.
Gambhir-Agarkar to question VVS Laxman in the BCCI meeting
According to a PTI report, both Agarkar and Gambhir are set to question VVS Laxman on the injury timeline of several players who are a key part of the squad. A number of Indian players are undergoing rehabilitation at the CoE, and the chief selector and the head coach could urge Laxman to set a date for their return to the national team.
"Tests that Jasprit Bumrah would be fit for at least one if not two Tests. In fact, he had written a mail to COE seeking more clarity on Bumrah's absence.
"His (Bumrah) absence was felt in the second Test where Siraj looked distinctly off-colour on a placid track. Ditto for Hardik Pandya, who hasn't played anything post IPL and is important as far as the ODI World Cup is concerned," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

It is understood that giving a specific date for a player’s return is difficult, but the Sports Science department of the CoE has often failed to provide an appropriate timeline, which has hampered India’s plans.
Why Gambhir-Agarkar want to raise injury-related issue in the BCCI meeting
The next ICC event will take place in 2027, as the 50-over World Cup will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. India will be one of the favourites for the marquee event, but for that, the team needs its main players to be fit, which they are not.
For Gambhir and Agarkar, it is important to know the timeline for the return of their key players so that, accordingly, the plans are set for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Injury-related issues hampered India’s chances on the UK tour, when Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Jasprit Bumrah got injured. It also ruined their Sri Lanka tour, as the likes of Sai Sudharsan and Bumrah were unavailable.

Several Indian match-winners are currently on the sidelines or are working in the CoE to make a comeback to the national team.
- Jasprit Bumrah sustained a knee injury during the second ODI against England, and as a result, he was ruled out of the Sri Lanka tour. Currently, India’s star pacer is rehabilitating in the CoE as India are hoping for his comeback.
- Then there is Hardik Pandya, who last played for India in the T20 World Cup 2026 and has not been a part of the squad for the UK tour or for the Zimbabwe series, and he recently suffered another injury setback on the road to his recovery.
- Harshit Rana was cleared by the CoE to make his return on the UK tour, but the pacer got injured, and reports circulated that he had weight-management issues, which led to a hamstring injury during the UK tour.
