Pakistan's talented young left-arm wrist spinner, Sufiyan Muqeem, last played an ODI and a T20I for the country back in 2025.
The young talent, who earned his maiden Pakistan call-up in 2023 following his heroics in T20 cricket and impressive domestic rise, has been sidelined throughout 2026.
The bowler has also addressed his growing frustration over the international snubs. Now, Sufiyan Muqeem, who starred in the Pakistan Super League 2026 with 22 wickets from 11 matches for Peshawar Zalmi, recently responded to viral speculation claiming that he was planning to leave the Pakistan cricket team because of repeated disappointments from the team management.
Sufiyan Muqeem Set To Leave Pakistan Cricket Team?
As per recent reports, Muqeem was set to leave the Pakistan national cricket team after frustration grew over his continued exclusion, with his social media posts also hinting at the deliberate ignorance shown towards him by the team management.
Surprisingly, despite solid performances in the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 while representing Pakistan A, and although being named in the squad on multiple occasions, Muqeem was ignored in the playing XI despite being a quality spinner.
His last international appearance came in the Asia Cup 2025, where he failed to impress. However, since then, he has redeemed himself with impressive performances in the BPL, the National T20 Cup, and the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

Nevertheless, these repeated snubs from the Pakistan management left the cricketer frustrated, and speculation snowballed into rumours that he was planning to leave the country to play for another nation.
Sufiyan Breaks Silence On Leaving Pakistan
Pouring cold water on the growing rumours, Sufiyan Muqeem himself clarified the truth about his future with Pakistan.
Taking to his official X account, Sufiyan wrote that the rumours about him leaving Pakistan were completely baseless, adding that he is currently playing T20 cricket for Derbyshire Falcons.
“The rumours about me leaving Pakistan are completely baseless. I am in England at this time solely for the purpose of playing T20 cricket for Derbyshire Falcons. I request all of you to keep me in your prayers. Pakistan is my identity, my pride, and my homeland, and it will always remain first for me. Long live Pakistan!” Muqeem wrote on his X handle.
He also expressed pride in representing his homeland and praised Pakistan in his message. In doing so, he debunked all the rumours linking him with a move to England and reiterated that he still has faith in the management to bring him back into the national side.
Can Muqeem Make A Comeback To Pakistan Side Anytime Soon?
Although Sufiyan Muqeem still believes he can make a comeback, the Pakistan Cricket Board has increasingly preferred all-rounders in both T20I and ODI cricket.
The preference for experienced all-rounders and the influence of team management have kept Sufiyan Muqeem at the bay.
A lack of backing, coupled with competition from senior players such as Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz, has significantly reduced the spinner’s chances of returning to the playing XI, and it appears unlikely that he will make his way back into the side anytime soon.
