Cricket Namibia has announced a 16-player Namibia squad for the upcoming T20I tri-series against South Africa and Zimbabwe at home. The series marks a historic occasion for Namibia cricket, considering they are scheduled to host several 2027 World Cup fixtures in roughly a year.
Interestingly, the T20I tri-series between Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe will also serve as a prelude to the proposed Africa Cup.
Gerhard Erasmus to continue as Namibia captain in tri-series
Gerhard Erasmus will continue to lead the Namibia cricket team in the upcoming 2026 T20I tri-series at home against South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Cricket Namibia unveiled a strong 16-player squad for the series, which features several members who recently won the Namibia T20I tri-series against Nigeria and Hong Kong at Windhoek a couple of months ago.

Opening batters Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton and Junior Taanyanda were both selected for the upcoming tri-series, alongside Alexander Busing-Volschenk and wicketkeeper-batter Zane Green.
Apart from left-arm spinner Bernard Scholtz and young fast bowler Jack Brassell, teenager Waldo Smith also retained his place in the side after making his international debut just earlier this year. Namibia captain set to achieve huge world record through T20I tri-series
With Gerhard Erasmus getting retained as Namibia captain for the T20I tri-series, the 31-year-old is set to achieve a huge world record in the coming weeks.
At the moment, Erasmus is just four matches away from becoming the most capped skipper in T20I history. He has so far led the Namibia cricket team in 87 T20I matches since becoming captain in 2019, and is currently only trailing Rwanda’s Clinton Rubagumya (90) in terms of leading a side the highest number of times in the shortest form of the game.
Under his leadership, Namibia has registered 52 wins at an expense of just 34 defeats with one tied result.
What is the significance of Namibia T20I tri-series 2026
The upcoming Namibia T20I tri-series 2026 is highly considered to serve as a prelude to the proposed Africa Cup. Moreover, the series will also serve as a testing ground for Cricket Namibia before hosting the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next year.
It is worth noting that the multi-nation spectacle next year is a joint-hosting venture between South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia; with the same three teams set to lock horns in the upcoming T20I tri-series.
Namibia’s schedule for T20I tri-series
The Namibia T20I tri-series 2026 is a seven-match affair, all set to be hosted by the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek. Each team will be facing each other twice in a double round-robin format before the final.
Namibia will take on South Africa in the opening match of the series on August 28. They will then face Zimbabwe on August 31, before concluding the league stage with matches against Zimbabwe and South Africa on September 3 and September 4 respectively.
