Young Indian batter Devdutt Padikkal has hinted at his participation in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 final despite a finger injury. Notably, Padikkal, who has shown stellar form in the tournament, sustained a finger injury during Karnataka's semifinal encounter against Uttarakhand.
Considering Padikkal plays for RCB and we are barely a month away from the IPL 2026, his untimely injury emerged as a concern for the defending champions. However, now that the southpaw is pumped up for the Ranji Trophy final, RCB and their fans must be relieved by Devdutt Padikkal injury update.
Devdutt Padikkal injured himself in KAR Vs UTK Ranji Trophy semifinal
Left-handed batter Devdutt Padikkal has showcased phenomenal batting form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. Playing for Karnataka, the young cricketer has amassed 532 runs across ten innings at a magnificent average of 59.11.
He smashed a terrific century against Punjab before racking up a fine double hundred in the all-important semifinal against Uttarakhand. However, Padikkal's Ranji Trophy final dream got almost shattered when he sustained a finger injury during the semifinal clash.

While fielding at the gully, Padikkal dived for a catch and injured himself in this process. The in-form RCB batter got his injured finger stitched and didn't come out to bat in Karnataka's second innings.
“He had stitches yesterday [Wednesday] and as a precautionary measure he didn’t bat. By the time he does on the 23rd, he’ll probably be fine,” Karnataka coach Yere Goud had stated.
Padikkal raring to go in Ranji Trophy final
In the latest development, Devdutt Padikkal hinted his availability for the high-stakes Ranji Trophy final through a post on social media.
Taking to his official handle on Instagram, Padikkal posted a picture of himself celebrating a milestone with veteran Indian cricketer KL Rahul. He looked all set to play the final, as he described Karnataka's dominant Ranji Trophy campaign and vowed to jump the final hurdle.
"Dominant from start to finish. One step away," Devdutt Padikkal posted on Instagram.
In fact, KL Rahul commented on his post, showing the camaraderie both players share on and off the field.
Why Devdutt Padikkal injury update is a sign of relief for RCB?
While Phil Salt and Virat Kohli formed a destructive opening pair, Padikkal formed the backbone of the RCB batting lineup alongside Rajat Patidar, Tim David and Romario Shepherd.
The southpaw inarguably had his best IPL season last year, amassing 247 runs in ten innings at a superb strike rate of 150.61. He played some really valuable knocks for the Royal Challengers, including blistering fifties against Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings.
However, he sustained an injury, forcing RCB to rope in Mayank Agarwal for the all-important playoff matches. Although the right-hander ensured quick-fire starts for the Royal Challengers, they released him to the IPL mini auction pool, including Padikkal in their retention list.
So, given that Devdutt Padikkal is expected to play a key role for RCB, the defending champions must be relieved as he gets ready for the Ranji Trophy final avoiding a long-term injury scare.
