In a massive recent update, Chaminda Vaas, the legendary Sri Lankan left-arm pacer, has joined Delhi Capitals as a bowling coach of the team for the upcoming IPL 2027. The announcement was made by DC through a social media video on their official handle.

Delhi Capitals welcome Chaminda Vaas as fast bowling coach for IPL 2027

It is important to note that Vaas has been welcomed by the cricket team in the capacity of a fast-bowling coach. This means he will be working exclusively with names like Mitchell Starc, Lungi Ngidi, Mukesh Kumar, Auqib Nabi and even Dushmantha Chameera to guide the pace bowling unit of the team.

Notably, Vaas has completed a professional coaching certification and is a Level 3 certified cricket coach. He specialises in left-arm seam/swing mechanics, tactical bowling, high-performance training, as well as youth academy structures.

Speaking of his experience as a bowling coach, he has had multiple stints with the Sri Lankan Senior Men's Team and has also been an elite consultant for New Zealand & Ireland.

Vaas’ cricketing career also speaks to his credibility as a bowler. Throughout his all-format cricketing days, he has been a nemesis for India legends Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag, having dismissed them 12 times and 6 times, respectively.

Chaminda Vaas has 355 Test wickets and 400 ODI wickets to his name, with best figures of 8 for 19 in the 50-over format. He himself also played in the IPL, representing the Deccan Chargers from 2007 to 2010, scalping a total of 18 wickets from the 13 innings he bowled in, while having best figures of 3/21 and an average of 19.72 in the IPL.

Chaminda Vaas’ massive coaching experience

Speaking of Chaminda Vaas's coaching experience, he has been the head coach of Jaffna Stallions Cricket Academy, while managing youth coaching networks across Colombo and Jaffna to scout, train and develop first-class athletes.

He has also been a consultant coach and academy lead of Sri Lanka Cricket from 2016 to 2021, while serving systematically within the high-performance centre to mentor emerging talents.

Between that stint, he has also been the fast bowling coach of New Zealand Cricket from October 2012 to November of the same year. In 2016, he also did a short stint as a bowling consultant for the Ireland cricket team.

Since then, in 2017, he stepped in as the head bowling coach of the Sri Lanka men's national team and in 2021 was appointed as the lead fast bowling coach for the national tour of the West Indies.

With his multiple stints for Sri Lanka and massive scouting experience, Chaminda Vaas is set to add to the experienced setup of Delhi Capitals, which already consists of names like Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh.
